Indeed. Metallica went to crap, Maiden still rules, some bands win, some lose. Now Nightwish is a very good "symphonic metal" band. All their albums up to Dark passion play (when they fired the lead singer) are the Beez neez.

I'm not really much of a fan of Nightwish's new singer.
But if you like more symphonic metal, you might want to check out Wintersun, or Symphony X

Nightwishes new singer has too much of a pop sound in her voice. Tarja had the voice of a perverbial angel......Plus she was beautiful.........Iam gunna have to check those 2 bands out. Any songs in particular that might sway me into liking them?

Technically...the Chief found it peculiar that one of the ODSTs was listening to a "descendant to old Earth music called heavy metal" but now known as "flip" music...he found it weird. So who knows, metal might not be the Chief's choice ;) Then again, no music might be.

Metal yes, I figured metal would suit him seen as he covered in it lol.
But in First Strike I believe, Johnson was listening to metal and n the book it said something like, "Personally, he[the Chief] didn't care for it at all" Or something similar.

EDIT: What Odessa said, only I think the ODST thought it was unbearable.

And to throw my chips into the music taste pile; I don't care for any kind of metal, and I only enjoy one screamo band, I'm a hardcore indie kid.

Any music from bands that got big after 1995 suck to me.

Watch The One. Good movie.

Not the licensed music....

Makes me want to kick the world in the balls for enjoying this $#!T enough for it to get mainstream.

All you people who like it. This is all your fault.

The Chief found the music strange...and yes, it could have been the ODST who didn't like it...so, was it Johnson who was listening to it? Yeah, that's right.

After this thread getting so much attention, I actually went and listened to the song...

average at best. verg generic. and not much to do with master chief.

now, it's hard to compare: it doesn't have the technique or talent behind it like Steve Vai, but even more than that, it's lacks feeling behind it.

anyway, "metal" isn't really a genre, it's like saying "what are you listening to?" - "rock/music/guitars". too vague.

and (Nightwish - Tarja Turunen) < (Nightwish + Tarja Turunen). simple math.

try bloodmeat by protest the hero
or liberate by slipknot
or the primer by between the buried and me
OR ramses bringer of war by nile

BTW disturbed sucks.... you can do WAY better... all their songs sound the same

Oh, everything from Wintersuns only current album is great!
But the first song I heard from the was Beyond the Dark Sun, short and sweet.
Also check out Death and Healing if you prefer clean vocals.

Some good symphony x would be

Paradise Lost
Out of the Ashes
Domination
Set the World on Fire
Accolade

and a bunch of others, they have two 20 minute long songs that are really great
The Divine Wings of Tragedy
The Odyssey
