Hi guy's this is my second MC helmet I've made. The first one was an epic fail because I didn't scale it and winding up with a 32cm heigh helmet. I'm only 27 cm high on my head lolz. So I learned scaling did some other helmets and then I was ready for my second try at it. Here'ssome pic's of it so far. Please don't diss it I'm still pretty new

Some Q's I still has :)

Please do not bug me about sticky's, I have read all the sticky tutorials and q's an a's threads

1. When your fiberglassing the inside of the helmet I saw in the tutorial he gets the cloth all wet with the liquid and then he leaves it in there. Do you leave the cloth in there with the liquid or do you just use it to rub it around?

2. After he did the inside in the tutorial he said he was resining the outside. Was he just painting the liquid on the helmet without the cloth? I'm a bit confused.

You use fiberglass resin on both the inside and the outside, it's the same thing. When you're putting cloth in the inside, I like to do a quick thin layer, put some strips of cloth on it so they stick, and then go over it with more resin. Always turns out good for me. Hope that helps, also, nice work on the pep. It should turn out fantastic.

No dissing but I wouldn't resin, much less fiberglass, this helmet. The resulting repair work is going to be more than it's worth. The left side appears to have collapsed a little and you used tape. If you had read the stickies, you would stayed away from scotch tape.

You brush a small amount of resin, lay down the fiberglass cloth/mat and then apply the resin with a dabbing motion. Never brush on the resin on top of the fiberglass. It will ruin the fiberglass surface by pulling off fibers with a brushing motion.

2. Near the end of the tutorial they were resining the outside but they said they used fiberglass resin? I'm really confused at this point is there a difference between fiberglass resin liquid you use with the cloth and resin. Just tell me what you use where please. I couldn't understand that.
Fiberglass resin is the liquid. We usually just refer to it as simply "resin." Fiberglass is the solid and it comes in either cloth and mat form. Neither one is better than the other.

Fiberglass resin is the evil and dangerous lung killing armor helping liquid we all use to make our armor with. It hardens easier in the hot sun and direct sun light contact.

Fiberglass itself, is a cloth you use WITH "fiberglass resin" (the liquid) you brush in resin on the inside of the helmet/piece, and lay the cloth onto it, then glob resin all over it and let it set for hours. This method is much cleaner than dipping the cloth itself into a tub of resin. Everything gets sticky and messy that way, so brushing some resin in, placing the cloth over, then globbing is best.

Ral Partha If you read the stickie thourghily it said not to use invisible scotch tape and I know why It ruins the paint. But scotch tape isn't reccommended but isn't a no. I find skotch tape easier so I AM still glassing

Hey, nice work on your helm overall and welcome to the forum!

However, I would HIGHLY suggest listening to Ral before you make an attempt at resining. I did the samething when I first started out, using scotch tape, and my original model, like yours, was warped along the brim. I just had to throw it away due to the scotch tape losing adhesion and my helm falling apart. What did remain was a rock-hard mess, and any warped areas I had were beyond reasonable repair. I suggest either adding many support struts to make your model as symmetrical as possible, or simply doing another helmet and learning from mistakes! That's what I did and I think my helmet turned out beautifully. After all, fiberglass and resin are expensive and you want to make sure your final model is perfect in every way :)

Best of luck :D

I find tape in general bad as the main adhesive. Elmers glue works for me, and I usually use a piece of tape or two for those extreme tight spots.

There's a reason scotch tape is not recommended. Show me a helmet assembled using scotch tape that looks good before resining and I'll take back what I said. So far, every single one that I have seen that used tape looks bad.

yeah scotch tape sucks, and your helmet will just fall apart, if it doesnt while your making it, it will when you fiberglass it. Use glue :)

So will it really fall apart as i fiberglass cloth the top of the inside of the helmet? It's also a waterproof tape and very sticky but it is still scotch tape so like what happens
