Just pondering here, but does anyone beside me think that it would be possible to make either full metal armor or possibly plated metal armor?

no doubt both methods are hard, but each I think is doable to some degree, granted you shell out a lot of money.

for full metal armor, i was reading up on metal injection molding. I figured if you could make a negative key of armor pieces using clay or like substances, and send it to a company like advanced powder products inc., they could then use the key to make an injection modeling of the pieces, then all you have to do is paint it. obviously something light like aluminum or somethings would be used.

plating it would be a lot more simpler. I think you'd still need to make a mold of the original armor thats being plated first off, then use that mold to make the plating, then affix it to the original armor. my question is what would be the best way to plate the armor, I think i might try it when i get a set or finish one up.

If you do a bit of a search you should find a few threads on metal armor... Loess' is the first that comes to mind (and probably the most complete) that I've seen here:

If I had the time and equipment I'd certainly be building mine from metal, unfortunately I have neither so it's fiberglass for me.

But metal can be heavy ^^

You can paint your stuff with hammered paint, so it has a little metal looking finish.

Bocus Jai is making an Iron Man helm from steel. Humungotron was talking about a Mk VI build, and it looks like he can do it.

I'm still in progress on the Marine build, it just got sidelined so that I can finish My ODST helm. (I also need to beg help from my GF on sewing the soft armor) I'm sure that there's others I'm forgetting, but those were fairly recent and look promising.

Metalworking by hand is becoming a lost art, with very few artisans left in the world. No doubt it would be expensive, heavy, and incredibly time-consuming.

Not many people can hammer metal into a smooth shape by hand anymore. It could be done, but it would take years of experience.

There is 3 of use on this forum the is making metal Halo armor. Use the SEARCH

Rob

As stated there is a Metal Armor thread
