Foam Mk VI Gen 3 Custom

Some pretty decent foamsmithing on the chest this morning, I won’t really do all the fancy details since my chest attachment will be on top of it, so just doing a basic silhouette of it.

IMG_2550.jpegIMG_2551.jpegIMG_2552.jpegIMG_2553.jpegIMG_2554.jpeg

Trying out the Hobby Lobby foam and it’s very nice actually, fairly dense and very sandable and cheap! Loving it so far! This is just 10mm and 5mm foam while making my angle cuts on the back side, very simple foaming technique

Kicking around the idea of maybe doing some custom work and free hand my own templates for the Mk IV up-armored additions, could be cool.

Just being an absolute tank of a Spartan would be pretty cool.

What do you guys/gals think?

Well, live and learned I tried doing my under cut/score technique, but didn’t take it account I have to curve it a little bit, so it kinda ripped at some of the seams, so this be a failed attempt, but I’ll post it anyway, making a V2 now

IMG_2630.jpegIMG_2631.jpegIMG_2632.jpeg

I’ll cut back on underscoring for V2, just this one is not as clean as I like.

Sooooo I did crank out most of the chest buuuut I scaled to my shoulders which was a mistake because apparently the widest point on the Mk VI is not the shoulders but the thrusters, which makes it a snug fit, but too snug for the undersuit bits, but I did get a pic with it on with some failed (not to my liking) shoulder and gauntlet bits from the Mk vii build, had to take the pic like 6ft away from the mirror to fit in it (need a bigger mirror)

Also in the middle of remodeling the bathroom too, so don’t judge, or no more pics.

With the bucket on I’m 6’1” without like 5’11”ish, which is kinda cool, but anyway, off to rescale probably by just 25-35mm or so should be good

Later peeps

Made some progress and the new scale has more room for activities (undersuit in foam with probably be between 15mm to 20mm thick)

Anyway went ahead and decided to attached the magnets too, but here are some pics of that progress, I’ll probably have the thrusters 100% done if my family people quit bugging me to help with random stuff. That’s been my whole Xmas break it seems.

IMG_2842.jpegIMG_2843.jpegIMG_2844.jpegIMG_2845.jpegIMG_2846.jpegIMG_2847.jpegIMG_2848.jpegIMG_2849.jpegIMG_2850.jpegIMG_2851.jpeg
I’ll make another post on the front chest bit with a larger pic, see you guys there

Anyway, some of you might have noticed my chest is missing some details for the those fancy stuff in the middle and around the front collar, because I will be frankensteining about 3 files to make a custom armored collar section, think of the Reach’s Breacher Collar and H3’s CQB chest and a touch of detail from Reach’s Grenadier

IMG_2848.jpeg

In my head should look cool but got to do it in a way my helmet won’t clip it soooo still designing it, might have a prototype done today and see how it will do, it will be a low detailed prototype of course.

Anyway, imma stalk some build and maybe type up some clever pun or something

Got both of the thrusters about 95%ish done, was trying to make the vent sections have well gaps, but the problem with foam is I couldn’t keep it straight so I just scored that detail on, oh well it’ll have to do, but here is the pictures.

I’ll hit it with my heatgun when I find that bright yellow elusive thing, hmmmm not sure where it is at the moment, oh well

Got the thrusters bits to 100% done even got the vent looking things cut out, I’ll take a hot knife to the foam “fuzzy” bits ( the effect you get when cutting with a butter knife dull blade)

IMG_2866.jpegIMG_2867.jpegIMG_2868.jpeg

I’ll try to get the whole chest done in two days, take advantage of the time I’m off, but I get distracted fairly easily, I should put a deadline on this build, maybe might actually get something done.

Well got the chest 90% done here are some pics on the mannequin because I barely took any pics of my progress, well for some pics of the progress, it still seems it needs to big bigger, I put it on and maybe have room for about 10mm of foam, and the undersuit will probably be like 15mm to 20mm, hmmmm I think I will start on the undersuit like I should have from the start, then test out the chest fitment, but here are the pice of it mostly done.

P.S. full size pics because it looks fairly pretty.

The mannequin is 2 inches taller than me, but I have the pretty much the same size shoulders and chest as it.

If you look at the front, which is my concern it doesn’t seem to be wide enough, having a hell of time to get the scale on this damn thing, all because of the damn thrusters.

But I think I will get started on the undersuit ab wrap thing started to be sure of course like I mentioned before should have done that first and scaled accordingly with it.

Had to find my reference for the ab bits and here it is.

Also Heroes Workshop revised their file to have a foam unfold of the ab wrap undersuit, kinda cool!

Wanted to see it with some helmets on the mannequin, my main helmet doesn’t have any padding in it yet so it looks like a goomba.

Here is the Reach Commando with 2in padding.

Just to hype myself up ya know

Photo dump on my undersuit ab wrap thingy progress, not quite done yet but I have a habit of working without posting anything, it’s looking good so far, I’ll trim it up once I all the shapes on, it’s been fairly easy, it’s a little larger than I intended it buuut I’ll just heat it up and shape it “inwards”

Anyway here is the pics, also pic heavy.

The base is just 6mm foam, and then layered with more 6mm foam and some 4mm.

Aaand went ahead and scored it the diamond things in the front, free handed because I have that surgeon precision going on, I’m pretty good man. So that will get the full size treatment

IMG_2924.jpeg

Also some more pics with better angles.

IMG_2925.jpegIMG_2926.jpegIMG_2927.jpeg

Anyway, I think I will tackle the spine pieces, mostly because still deciding between a Velcro attachment or magnet, probably Velcro since I have a lot of that stuff.

Anyway later!

Some of the spine pieces done, simple, easy shapes, nothing to it.

IMG_2929.jpegIMG_2930.jpegIMG_2931.jpegIMG_2932.jpegIMG_2933.jpeg
Probably do 3 coats of contact cement, thinking it will be a point of friction and stuff

And decided to attach the spine bits to the ab wrap bits, looking pretty good.

IMG_2934.jpegIMG_2935.jpegIMG_2936.jpegIMG_2937.jpeg

Well guess next is the front part, then cutting it out and that should be it, well and the the faux strap things too but that’s the easy part.

I’ll probably get that done today, since some errands to do as well, soooo maybe not
