Hey 99, nice helmet! your doing a great job so dont get discouraged, the experiences learned from broken pieces make the final victory oh so much sweeter. chest piece looks really good, if you send me the digital file used to make it i will adapt the parafoil carapace when it is finished to fit that particular model. my cousin will be here wednesday or thursday so we will hopefully render the digital mastercopy over the weekend.. keep it up man!

ps Congrats on the Noble 6 Win!!

hey guys i finished my chestpiece

@Necro-do you just want me to send it in an email? because its the low def chest by Robogenesis
@B1TMAP- i wasnt planning on stoping the CQB and using the noble 6, i was just happy i won it

you can send it in an email, necrogenesis.prime@gmail.com. So far as the carapace itself, have been thinking about weight issues people have mentioned in their threads, and i am newly worried about how heavy these things will be if we pep/resin/fiberglass them, as i originally intended.. i think micro foam is going to prove the best option. It is durable, lightweight, and still looks really good painted.

With that being said, i will make the digital mastercopy of the carapace low definition, that way you can print the template out on paper (after scaling it to fit your specific height), then cut the foam from the paper template. We can augment this with high definition pepakura add ons that can be made with the traditional resin/fiberglass method, this will add to the quality of the finished product but keep weight to a minimum.

To achieve perfect symmetry between the carapace and the back, i will create a direct inverse template from the original pepakura design by robogenesis - Or - we can leave the back of the Carapace open, that way you just attach it directly to the backpiece - but it will most likely be more fragile.. other than that i am open to suggestions, let me know what you think...

Edit: a third option that just came to me, was to make the portion where the carapace presses against the back out of a stretchy fabric and then reinforce that part of the frame around it with extra cardboard/bondo - that way it can adhere to whatever backpiece design the person chooses, and the reinforcement will add some stability.. Also your chestpiece looks very good, keep it up! The only advice i have is you may want to add some popsickle sticks or something to keep it from warping until the resin is applied..

ya i used some tin snips to cut the tops off of plasic knifes so i had the handles and put them in. but what i was thinking is that since people put clips on their backpack so they can attach the chest piece without having to slide it on, we could just put clips on the carapiece that attach to the chest, and i am probably going to use the low def file on cardboard

@ Necrogenisis

I think you should just leave it open, with some supports, and if somebody wants it closed for detail on the inside when it comes off, they can just cut another piece and stick it over the supports. Anyway, remember that the front part covers the front, and the carapace covers the back, so it basically almost completely covers the MK VI. If you wanted, you could make the carapace as a chestpiece. :D

Good ideas both of you, i will make the final design with the back open, factor in the clips, and try to figure out an alternate carapace for the chestpiece... (and keep up the great work 99, that shoulder is yet another good addition!)

hey guys i need some help, do any of you guys have ideas on how to install the visor into the helmet?

The most secure way is to use screw. See my thread on page 3. I don't have a picture of the screws, but basically I cut a piece of wood and resin it in place inside the helmet. Next, I screw the visor to the piece of wood. The photo that I have shows I placed a piece of foam over it to prevent the screw from scratching the face. Once I have the visor in place, I hot glue with a piece of foam to fill the seams. Hope this helps.

I like your chest piece. I recommend that you go with Flying Squirel HD chest. It looks much better due to the details.

thanks man, but im not sure how well that will work with the cqb, seeing as there isnt really a good spot near the face to put a screw

For my MK VI, I used less than half inch of piece of wood on the sides near the ears. For CQB, you can put a piece of wood on the forehead or the cheeks. Instead of using wood, you could use "L" shape fasteners on the forehead. I think you can find these at the cabinet section at Lowe's. All you need is just two screws.

using CoolC's method, i believe you could place screws at these three locations although it will take some creative planning:

if you need help with the structural planning i will be back at my terminal monday, but we have a field exercise this weekend so im gonna be logging off soon.

posted this before reading his above comment, the L fasteners would be great.

[edit: so we wont return until tuesday at the earliest now... greaaaate]

hmm i put a foamie inbetween 2 and 3 above the chin so i could put some bondon on it and have the visor stick to that then i was going to bondo in the corners of the visor do you think that would work?

Your peps are looking really good man. Also, I replied to your pm regarding the CQB visor install. Keep up the great work.
