you need a mother mold to keep the silicones shape while casting this can be made with a product by smooth on called plasti paste

could plaster bandages also be used as a mother mold?

Plaster bandages may be used, but you'd have to build it up in layers, and it'd have to be pretty thick. You'd want to supplement the plaster bandages with additional layers of plaster. However, it'll take a day or two to fully cure, depending on the thickness of it, and even then you are still looking at a heavy, heavy mold.

I would recommend fiberglass for your mother mold. If you're going to be fiberglassing your castings, you might as well just use it for the mother mold as well. Use fiberglass mat, and you'll have a strong, relatively light mother mold.

MMMK. wat do you mean by "supplement the plaster bandages with additional layers of plaster"?

and ya fiberglass is a good idea. and haji that's a good idea to do it over the plaster! :)

thanks!

Ithica and other Soaring Hammer members have made great tutorials on mold making, you should check them out, if you haven't already!

Hey one thing that you want to keep in mind. If your mold is not thick enough, the plaster bandages really forms a tight fit over the smallest ridges in your silicone. My key registers did not fit back in the shell properly and caused my cast to come out wrinkled up.

I just remade my outter shell with just fiberglass
