Mongoose Thread- Update 03/27/10

I have a suggestion for the lights up front to convert from monocular lense to dual mongoose lense with little to less cost than LEDs.

Shape the front cowling as you see it but inside put a trianglepointing tip first toward the headlight. The sides of the pyramid can be shiny metal or faux chrome plstic like the inside of a large 9V flashlight. Put another reflective surface on the outer inside of the cowling lower down and then mount clear plastic lenses for the right placement of the mongoose headlights. With the top off just move the reflects a little until the light hits the front lenses. Voila, light made two and I estimate the additional cost is about ~$20 USD.

and yeah I know that seems like a convoluted way of doing things. Just an idea. But, I've been wrong before and will be again. =P

@A_Guardian - yeah an unfortunate look-a-like superficially with an even more unfortunate name. Given its an import, chances are it is from a country not signatory to the Byrne Convention.

I had noticed that it was foriegn, and know that its too dissimilar to count as a ripoff.

Also if someone managed to make a mongoose that looked good and worked, bungie would most likely support it. so would I.

I was making a joke about how similar it was.

i would just make a pep mongoose body build it around the quad then mod the quad it self or something like that

I'd stay away from bondo over resin cardboard unless you're only going to ride it nice and easy on the street. A good bump, vibration, or bump and the bondo will crack and start falling off.

EDIT: Red Ford trucks RULE! ... thank you... :)

I use Google Sketchup 7, (for when i need to make things to take measurements)

which you can download free HERE

THIS IS HOW TO USE IT IN PEP!!! --you can,t open sketchup (.skp) files with pepakura designer, you have to go to the

file manu and go to save as and then it will ask you what you want to name the file and what type

of file you want to save it as, the default setting is set to sketchup models (.skp) << you have to change this

to the one right below it, which is sketchup virsion 6 (*.skp then reopen the file, and go to the file menu and

export it as a .kmz file (this is the default) then open it with pep designer.

if you have any questions feel free to ask, or if you want me to take screenshots of my computer while doing this, i can do that to.

another thing, i am running windows 7. but that shouldn't affect anything.

this is the google sketchup warehouse < that is a REALLY good place to find stuff.

there are a bunch tutorials on you tube, if you need help on how to model with sketchup, i think it is pretty straight forward.

this is the third topic i have posted this info in. :cool

Ok, guys I decided to get back in this project :D

I would need is like a couple of blueprints of the mongoose and the TRX 250.

I tried to overlap them in power-point and I failed :(

I can just work on this project in the weekends because my quad is in my Dads storage room or his business storage room :pWhatever you want to call it

So in there I have a lot of space to work with :D

I would be really grateful if somebody can make a couple of simple blue prints.

Today Im going to ride my quad so get ready for some legit pics :p

Ok, well like I said there will be pics :D

Me just wondering around :p

I almost run over my sis :p

telling her how to take a pic :D

Just a normal pic :)

going full speed :D

I also have a vid, of me jumping, if somebody could be so awesomely awesome and help me, I would be your best friend :D

BTW

Its sad that nobody posted in this thread while I was gone :(

And Im asking again if somebody could just help me make simple blue prints of the trx and the mongoose, I would really appreciate it. I need them so I can plan stuff this week, and next week I will start working on it

first i want to say: good job. secondly, i found a site for blueprints for the mongoose. i couldn't find the TRX 250 blueprints, but the mongoose BPs are pretty simple hope this helps

Thanks Nico :D

Well about the TRX i was thinking of just adding a grid in the picture, or overlapping it with a mongoose sideview pic si I can see and change the difference

I just wanted to add to what Mr Toad said about bondoing cardboard. I did my entire odst and ar out cardboard-I can't pep since I have a mac (unless someone knows a way)-that was reinforced with layered paper (kind of like super-mache lol) and then bondo over the top to create a smooth surface for painting. It worked well except the cardboard isn't rigid enough and eventually bends; resulting in the bondo chipping and cracking. If you are only doing this for aesthetics you may want to try pepping or even try a hand at wood working (avoid the expensive and tedious route of fiber glassing). I built a lot of stuff with balsa wood when I was a kid. It's fragile, but very user friendly if you're careful. Sorry for the long post (first btw woot woot). Hope it helped. Good Luck.

Sorry Bro, but I will turn the ATV in a Reach mongoose, I just have to get the game for screenies :p

BTW
Mods please close this thread

hah ok man, well i was actually planning on getting an atv for my b-day just from this thread. I might even try to turn it into a mongoose but for halo 3. I think i like how it looks better then reach but who knows :p hah well thanks for the inspiration!
