Hey, wanna come visit Victoria and help me out with something?

It would be nice to travel. But alas, my family would be jealous if I made a trip out west without them.

Dib!!! He wants you to come to his place so you can clean it up!!!!! Oh for Pete's sake..........never mind.......don't forget to wear the French Maid's outfit.....

I still have to apply a blackwash to the curiass. Instead of working on that I did a tiny bit of paint detail tweaking on the slinger. The details on it were always bugging me. It need more definition on the details to make it pop more. I just happen to get my answer from a clip of someone using dry brushing on an Instagram clip.

So I went in on the spiral details with black and then to the crevasses on the white bone. I also applied a light wash of brown so the bone doesn't look so... White.
I also removed the bolts. It was too much weight and would cause the slinger to constantly slide down my arm.

Going back and adding that little amount of black and brown paint has really improved the look of the prop.
I am going to have to go back to the rest of the armour parts to match now.
Sigh... That adds a lot more work. In the end though, it greatly improves the quality of the costume.

I don't know what this thing is... but I do know it looks freaking awesome! I love it.

Continuing with the detail work I did on the slinger, I moved onto the curiass and the mask. Applying the same technique of dry brushing into the corners to make the lines show up more.

I also pulled the teeth out of the mask. I wasn't happy with them. Too small and too many. So I made another batch with foam clay but, didn't make enough. Had to whip a second batch.

Photo dump update:
Odogaron has a new set of chompers.

Dry brushing with black to enhance details is done on all the armour pieces. Now to dry brush some grey on all the black areas to weather those sections.

Started on some of the rope details. Chest is done. Need to add rope on the right arm and then for the backs of the shins. There is also rope to go around the top of the shin.

One thing that I have not made yet is the feet. There should be a set of shoes to go along with the shins to make a nice matching set.

The artwork on here is BEAUTIFUL! I love the photos.

Those ropes on your side are pretty bright though, is there a way to weather them?
Yeah. The ropes are going to weathered eventually. I will either use a wash of black or brown paint. Maybe even both.
If that doesn't work out, I have some markers that will work as well.
I've test the markers before.

I don't think the markers work too well tbh. What about just dipping them in some sort of solution? Coffee even.

Ooooh. I like that idea. Will have to test it out.
Building on that, to get different colors of wear, could stain it with a darker substance via submersion, and then damp a cloth with... something... paint even maybe, and just wrap the cloth around the rope and pull it through, getting just the outside layer, no crevacise.

Having worked w/ rope before.....I found that liquid shoe polish works great on natural fiber rope. It bleeds well into the rope and pools in the areas where the braids meet. Gives it a "stained" look if you use different colors. Paint might just crack and flake off. Just don't go heavy handed w/ it. It is a liquid after all. Do a test piece first. Not sure what type of rope you are using so not 100% sure of the outcome. If it's a nylon fiber.....it might not take it.

Haven't made much progress since I last posted. For the wig helm I have been cutting out weft from a faux fur rug.
20200113_185003.jpg
Made a little template for the shape of the weft and started cutting them out. Boy oh boy does this make a mess. While cutting, stands of the fur get EVERYWHERE. My wife wanted to kill me after cutting out the first few wefts.
20200115_174028.jpg
I've made about 20 wefts so far and might need to make a other 20 more to cover the whole helmet.
I then got side tracked and started to rebuild the claw for my right hand.
As much as I like how version 1 turned out, I based finger plates on another cosplayers build and the finger tips were all wrong.

So the above sketch is a little more game accurate.

Here's how V2 is going to look like versus V1.

And this is the stage I am at now. Used a wood burner to detail and put googlies under the craft foam to make raised knuckles.
It's now ready for sealing and paint.
