Being semi-new to the 405th, I have read all of the rules and I'm still not sure if continuing off a WIP topic is necro-posting

But here is my update anyway:

I have a medium-def Torso and back ready for fiber glassing:

I have finally made medium-def shoulders:

I even decided to make me some medium-def forearms:

I believe that I possess more skill with a rotary tool than pepakura. The majority of the detail work will be done by rotary tool (dremel) and A LOT of bondo.

Also, I have made a foam core template for a custom Halo 3 Shotgun that I will work on in between drying times of fiberglass, the barrels and pump are not on this template as they will be separate entities in the design, ie, the barrels will be tubes and the pump will be able to "pump":

Nope. Doesn't count as a necro-post as it's your thread to begin with, and you're posting an update relating to the topic. So, no Banhammer will be coming after you, dude :lol lol

Nice progress you've made on the medium-def Pep pieces, btw. And I'm liking your approach for the Shotgun. I've used foam board for one or two small-scale builds myself, and it's a pretty easy and versatile material to use, imho. Great for carving/shaping.

Looking forward to more :cool

P.S., Are you still doing anything with the low-def AR you put together?

Hooray, No ban hammer!

yes, I intend to still resin and detail the low def AR

what is master chief if he doesn't have 2 weapons?

the dhooty is my first time making a weapon in that fassion, but not the first time I've worked with foam core.

I have heard some depressing news that resin melts faom, it there anyway to get around this by either pinting it or coating it in something else first?

BOLD # 1: Good point. It's just no fun if you can't dual-wield :)

BOLD # 2: I've heard the same, though I haven't had any experiences with that myself (I do know that automotive primer doesn't damage it, though). The only thing I can think of to maybe avoid that unpleasantness would be to apply some sort of sealant to the foam board before resining it.

That may protect the foam from being eaten by the resin, but I can't say with any real certainty.

It would probably be best to try that (spray on sealant, then resin) on a small piece of scrap material first, see what happens. Other than that, I don't know what else you could do, dude. Sorry

one can only try, I'll make a few cubes out of the stuff, do some different sealing methods, and when I resin my armor parts, I'll try then to answer this question once and for all!

sorry for the double post, but I have finished resining and now moving on the fiberglassing, it is taking a bit more time than I thought and I need to have the suit ready by October 22 for a Halloween party and all that jazz. being that I can only work effectively during the weekends, I may end up skipping the bondo step.

Now, I am a scale model builder at heart, those micro details are my bread and butter. I will try to do my best, but because of a time crunch, I am not so sure that I will be able to make a project the 405th refers to as "good"

who knows, maybe I'll surprise myself and get more than expected done, but no promises. I will have pics up by this weekend and despite the search function, Google, and build stickies, could someone please kindly direct me to an online place where I may purchase a gold reflective motorcycle visor. I am not one to make unreasonable requests, but also a visor that is cheap (like under $30.00).

Thanks again 405th for supporting the armor and the Shotgun Project!

Hey it's looking like it's coming along nicely! Sorry, but I don't know anywhere that you could get a visor for under $35. Good luck, and best wishes to you.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com <- I got my Zamp JS-1 visors from there, and they were $20 each. I'm really happy with how they worked with my Mark 6 helmet.

Thanks for the link to the motorcycle stuff,

so far, I have found a few visors under $30 there:

Zamp

AFX

FX-77

FX-12

FX20

FX96

I think the Zamp is the best, but when I look at the picture, it seems to have a solid, non-see-through section surrounding the visor, is this true, or is it just a reflection?

I should have had pictures of this up a month ago when it was finished, but I finally made my first Mk VI Mjolner armor and M 90 shotgun for 2009. After shedding blood, sweat, and tears (ok, maybe not that bad) I was able to take it down to some Halloween parties and it was awesome. So without any further ado, my first armor suit:

Please note: Yes, I know I skipped the full bondo-ing portion of the suit making, I was on a crunch for time and money. I also did not make the Master Chief boots because I prioritized the ability to walk over full blown authenticity. I hope to improve in a lot of these areas as I am planing on making a Dutch (or mickey) ODST suit for 2010.

Thanks 405th!

A little blurry, but you get the picture...

quick question for all of you who have built many suits of armor before, I was having some trouble keeping the shoulders and thigh pieces from shifting. I also could not get Velcro to stick properly, especially around the crotch piece, I tried using something along the lines of liquid nails industrial adhesive, but by the grace of god, it wouldn't dry for some reason despite everything being fully cured and even unpainted.

I would like to apply any suggestions anyone has to the ODST Armor I plan to make in the near future.
