Hello everyone! Been putting this post off for a few months but I wanted to show my build progress so far on my MK V! I've actually been working on this since last dragon con after seeing the 405th group photo. The original deadline for this thing was for a con in December. Life happened so that didn't end up happening LOL. New deadline is now Megacon! So I have a decent amount to get through to bring you guys up to speed.
Hi my name is Ralph from Central Florida and I have only been cosplaying for about 2 years now! This current build will be my 4th costume. I have previously made a helldiver and two kamen riders with many other props sprinkled in-between. I will say after having my last two costumes needing a pristine glossy look, I'm happy to be doing a weathered build again! Much more leeway with paint defects and whatnot.

Used halo infinite as my armor builder which has ODST shoulders, the operator helmet and the breaching kit. I will probably add a knife somewhere on the chest when I get a chance. I'm a huge sucker for any asymmetrical paint schemes so I'm going with the scorpion punch coating from infinite except I will be changing the read to a bluish teal kinda color.
MA5C
While making my helmet and printing my armor I was trying to figure out what weapon I wanted to lug around at cons. It was a very close race between the Halo 3 battle rifle and the MA5C. I absolutely love both but child me would have killed for a MA5C so that's what I went with. I decided to go with Galactic Armory's MA5C since I'm already familiar with their files. A bit of sanding and paint later and BAM a weapon to finish the fight.
Armor Armor is always such a nightmare to size... Just when you think everything is perfect, there always that one piece that causes some chaos. For me that was the thighs. I had to reprint these things 3 TIMES! And while they fit they are still a tad snug.
That being said the other armor pieces were not chaos creators like the attention seeking thighs. The files I went with are InstinctCreative3ds files with a mix of Galactic Armory ODST shoulders. The breaching kit I got from Titlewavedesigns. I don't have many pictures of the sanding phases for the armor because I was super locked in at the time and wasn't thinking about documentation.
At this point I was pretty sick of sanding and really needed to do something else so I started to do some of the painting on the finished pieces.
I had pretty decent success with masking and painting compared to some past projects. Barely had any kind of paint chipping or bled though on the armor with was pretty nice. At this point in time this is where the general armor parts stand. The last thing I worked on was applying a pre weathering clearcoat to all the pieces which went smoothly. Trying my best to take advantage of the current low humidity in Florida.
Molds For the chest rig/ab wrap/Neck seal I decided to jump into the unknown for me and cast them in silicone. This is gonna be a really fun new experience for me and I'm hyped to see how they turn out. SO far I have the neck seal molds sanded and am working on the back half the abs now. While browsing the 405th I remembered reading what someone recommended for the chest rig being in a different material than silicone since the same elasticity isn't needed. So I will be going with some sort of liquid urethane rather than the dragonskin silicone used for the neck seals. Figured these pieces need to have a much firmer feel to them.
That is pretty much where I stand with my progress on the armor! The only things I have left to do are the shoes, belt, and molds...and weathering...and rigging..... Unfortunately I can only really do work on the weekends due to being a full time student BUT I think finishing all of this before Megacon is completely possible I just need to lock in these next few weeks. Hoping to update you guys on my progress each weekend up until that deadline! Super excited to finally start the process in joining the 405th! Been a halo fan ever since I was little!

Helmet
I went with Rogue Props and Prints operator file for my build. I had the worst luck when sizing this thing unfortunately... The neck opening tapers off and makes it very hard to get on. To combat this I decided to make the helmet 4% wider. I also took a Dremel tool and sanded down some of that taper. I'm always nervous about making a bobblehead helmet because I am a much smaller guy. Though I think once I get all the armor on it will balance out quite well. When making my helmets I always like making a mini helmet as a guide a reference for the rest of the build. I find it to be very quick and worth it in the long run
The paints I went with are all rustoleum. Went with charcoal grey, ultra matte black and seaside. Went with some lighter weathering but I think I'm going to go back and add some more dry brushed aluminum. The visor is currently a placeholder because there are some layer lines present.I went with Rogue Props and Prints operator file for my build.
