I just started making my first pieces of Mark VI armor. I began my helmet using "Rundown's" pep. file. I goofed on the first attempt while scaling it. Lol it ended up fitting my 13yr brother in-law’s head instead of mine. HAHAHA...

Any how I hit the drawing board again and made a second one out of Pep. I added about 3 inches to my measurement to allow for padding. I now am wondering if it looks right, or should I try and shrink it down a little bit more?

I took a few rags and strapped them to my head to get a rough idea about how it should look if go ahead and finish it. (That is why you see the belt hanging out of the bottom of the helmet.

Hey i know everyone is fairly buisy but I am fixing to get the fiber glass stuff pretty soon and would like to know if anyone thinks my curent helmet's size is to big or not? Thanks.

IMO it does look a little big, but thats ok. You would rather have it too big than too small. You can work with too big. Just a bit more sanding :p now if i might ask how are you doing your scaling?

I just measured from my chin to the top of my head, added about 3 inches to account for padding (per the advice in one of the tutorials) and then converted that number to meters. I think it came out to a decimal so I rounded it up. That may be why it looks just a bit larger than it should be.

Thanks for the response too. Does any one else. Have an opinion about the proportions on my helmet? I agree that I could make it work as it is, but in the long run would it look goofy having a larger helmet with the rest of the suit being right (that is assuming I even get that right)

I am on the side that its a bit to large. When scaling my helm I only went with 1 inch of buffer zone since as you make the helm taller by 3 inches you also make the helm wider by 3 inches. I am using 1/2 and 1 inch strips of closed cell foam for padding right now so it works out nicely. The way i am looking at for "fit" of my helm is comparing it to a motorcycle helmet, snug and close for the most part. Either way, looks like some strong work with the normal learning curve present!

Hey guys. First i want to say that i haven't abandoned this project. I had started this thing just after I got married. As a result it has been on hold in order to get the new wife settled... Fast forward 9 months and i am about to return to this wonderful project. I did have to make a compromise on the time that i can put into this each day now though so it will take me about twice the time to complete my next pep helmet as it did to make the first two. Hopefully i will have some better updates soon. I may still be able to make the Halo 4 release though.... HOPEFULLY!!!

As usual I am still struggling with the Scale issues lol I was want to print out a part of the helmet to try its scale factor before i made a whole nother one that would be useless? If i just print the underside of the helmet's visor would that be a good start? Should its curve fit up against the fore head like a base ball cap would? I don't think so but any advice would help.

Scale for a helm is is hard I went 3 inches extra on mine so that when padding, fans and lighting is added I will still have room for air flow. More over it fits with the larger scaled armor. The pep that you have in the above pic looks good and should work well.

Well i printed out my next helmet tonight, and went with a height of 11.5" I really hope this one comes out right.... Now i get to start the long process of cutting out all of the parts w/ the good old Exacto Knife. "Bring on the sore fingers!"

I also got these funny pics of my wife... in my "BIG" helmet.

well I started my new helmet. My head is 9.5" tall, and I added 3" to that measurement. Hear are some pics of it's progress so far. Does the scale look ok?

It does look like your scaling will be a bit small for your head. With all the hardening and such your going to do you will want to foam and that is another 1/4-1/2 inch of padding that will cause you to have it more on top of your head then on your head.

My helmet is scaled to 291mm I think(not at home to check my notes) but I've heard that about 300 mm is a good standard size. Hope that helps.

Well I finally completed the Pepakura phase of my third helmet. I have to say that I am glad that it actually turned out with such a good a fit. It is sitting flush on the top of my head w/o any padding in the pics below, and I know it has a slight lean on the top left side. I'm going to try and fix that latter on in the next phase. Now on to the fiber-glassing, and the good news is that I have 2 complete helmets to practice on before I do the real one!!!

Scaling looks good now. Redoing pep sucks but its a necessary evil i guess. looking good though

Well i now have completed the pep on my right fore arm. The only problem is i cant fit the wrist part over my hand. Is that normal? I put it on when it was still able to open like a clam shell and it fit nice but now it is glued all up and it wont fit over my hand. Will I have to cut back around the wrist once its Fiber glassed in order to for it to fit?

BY The way my cameras battery are dead so i will post pics after i get some new ones.

well as promised i now have the pics of TWO fore arm pieces and one of the two hand guards. I am going to try and pick up the fiberglass resin and cloth stuff by this weekend. I just have to wait until i catch my bud who will give me his employee discount at the store.

Let me know what you think.

Well it has been a while since I have been able to do any work on my suit but in the mean time I am thinking about picking up a under armor suit. So that being said has any body had any luck with Ebay sites? For example this is one I am thinking about picking up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160658579124?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

If the link doesn't work right then I will repost a better one when I get home from work.I am kind of apprehensive about it since I don't do much Ebay buying and the seller is out of China. Any advice is appreciated.

First off, eBay is safe. eBay has strict guidelines for sellers. If sellers does not meet certain satisfactory rating, their account will be closed. If buyer is not satifactory with the purchase, you can go though the ardous process to get your money back. When you buy anything for eBay, it is extremely important that you check the sellers ratings. Having said that I don't see why you are concerned with buying stuff from China. What you need to be concerned of if the product is what you expect.

Personally I would not recommend the product because it is too bulky. That translates to increasing the size of your armor. For that price, you are better off with this:
