My Non-Halo Props...

I see all the great Halo projects people share, and since I haven't really started

any of my own (no, printing out pep for 3 different helmets doesn't count... as

"started"), I figured I'd share some pics of other things I've been working on.

For those who don't know me (which is most of you), I've been involved in movie

prop and costuming for many years now. I'm the admin or co-admin of a couple sites

and member of many more.

My current big project for the last couple years has been making revolvers from

the Indiana Jones movies 'Last Crusade' and "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

I researched the correct model pistol, invested in a real steel version, made

moulds and do all the finish work myself. My Webleys have some functionality,

plus some metal parts as well.

The lanyard loop is mostly functional with metal parts I cast. The side detail pieces

are also metal, as is the release lever. The grip slabs are seperately cast and

bolted togeather like the real ones are.

This Webley is part of a limited run I'm doing at the Indygear forums.

I've also made a few Airsoft Pulse Rifles (from Aliens) over the years,

with my final one still sitting in the basement in pieces. :)

This is the last rifle I built, and ended up selling to buy parts for my

"final" rifle.

I've built a Ghostbuster's proton pack...

...I have a Morita rifle from Starship Troopers that I'm making out of a

Nerf Longshot as well. That one's slow going, but should be nice when complete. :)

So, just wanted to share a little without resorting to Halo noob questions. :D

I'll go back to lurking now. :)

Wow, that's some nice stuff you've got there, can't wait to see how the Starship Troopers rifle is going to turn out.

I have a Webley Mk VI that my father gave me a long time ago. But yours is a little different from mine. Is that the particular model you bought or is the film hero different?

On mine the grip is different from yours (yours is more like the one on my Mk IV tanker) and yours has a different cylinder. Is it loaded with 45LC or .455 replica ammo?

This is the model 1917 Mk VI that I have.

And please don't think for a second that I'm not impressed with your work. I just always grew up hearing my baby called the Indy gun and I want to know how different the film hero prop is from the real deal.

Thanks for the replies!

To answer your questions in order...

The version of Webley that I have/make is accurate to the film used gun.

For years the Last Crusade Webley was reported as being a MKVI, but it's

actually a Webley "WG." I verified the model by doing direct comparisons

with the film.

The grip is a full bird's head grip. The exact style of which wasn't used

on any other pistols manufactured by Webley. Some come close, but they don't

have the tighter grip curve that the WG does.

As far as the diffferences between your pistol and the film used version,

the WG has a longer cylinder and grip frame (with extra space in front of

the trigger), plus the exaggerated bird's head grip. Cylinders from any

other .455 caliber Webley will NOT fit the WG as they're just too short in

length.

Here's some comparison shots and screen caps showing the differences.

I've had a couple people ask how I know the "WG" is the correct pistol

when everything they've read says that it's a MKVI in The Last Crusade.

Well, here's the evidence. You can judge for yourself.

The Webley WG...

The MKVI...

Here's a comparison of a WG and a Hybrid MKVI barrel and MKV grip frame...

And finally a comparison of my WG and it's VERY little brother, the MKIV.

webley1.jpg

The WG used in the film has the distinctive birds head grips, a larger

(longer) cylinder and longer frame, most noticeable by the inch of space

in front of the trigger.

The WG birds head grips also are different from those on the Webley

MKIII and other model Webley's by being more curved.

And here's screen cap evidence...

My replica has .455 shells in the cylinder. Sadly, they're a more modern

vintage (not true 1930's vintage) but I figured at least they were the

correct caliber. :)

Your personal pistol is wonderful (I have a special fondness

for most any revolver made by Webley) and a great weapon, it's just slightly

different from the film used pistol. I have several friends who own the MKVI

and to them, most any Webley is an "Indy gun." Especially considering how

seldom the WG's pop up for sale. ;)

I also have a MKIV in .38 caliber. It's oddly enough the same model pistol used by

"Captain Jack" in the British TV show "Torchwoood."

Very nifty handguns.

Damn, those are some good looking props. I just love the Proton pack. Ghostbusters FTW.

Well done sir. Well done.

Will you be working on any Halo props while hanging around the 405th?

Heck yes. :)

I'm in the pre-planning stages now for making the Magnum pistol from ODST.

A bunch of us want to do ODST costumes, so we'll see what happens first. :)

When I first saw the WETA Landfall video I wanted to do ODST but got

involved in some other projects that have taken most of the free time.

Lots of cool "toys" in the HALO setting for certain. :)

Wow thanks for the response man. I actually went hunting for a WG after I saw your reply and found one for sale near me in Houston. Can't afford it now though, those things are worth triple what my Mk VI is.

If you ever want to trade some Halo gear for Indy gear hit me up with a PM.

Hey, no problem, glad to help!

Yeah, the WG's go for 'stupid money' these days. I actually have 2 of them but will be selling one

in the near future. Need to pay off the 'wife debt' I gained by buying the second one. :)

When I finish my current run of pistols, I may take you up on the offer.

Did some resin casting this weekend but ran out of AL powder. It kind of slowed production

at that point. :)
