Nice Find Of Epoxy

Hi I just recently find a type of epoxy wo got no odor, I was unable to find aqua resin because the only distributor near me was in ontario canada and me im in quebec.
So I find a epoxy 14-08, the man at the hardware call it like that, who has no odor. I my case the principal problem was the odor because I do it in my garage and my father was always yeilling at me, all the time I was doing some fiberglass. Until the day he said me to make my fiberglass in the cabanon (sorry I dont know how to said it in english, its a little building we have in the back of my property). When it winter it really hard to make fiberglass.
I buy some of the epoxy I find in quebec city and I try it.
I was really surprise, she got no odor and no color and take 24h to dry at 18C. For now I only put one layer of resin on a forarm and after super the epoxy is supose to be dry so I probobly gona put a other layer.

also i think you mean sheds, alot of people in america have them and they are like little buildings.

excpet my aunts whose is two storys and has a game room with air conditioning and a fridge.

Yeah I find the smell of fibreglass resin is a bit of a bummer.

My armour STILL smells and its been curing for well over a fortnight now?

Can you use this epoxy resin with fibreglass matte/sheet on the inside?

I wonder is this stuff can be found in the states.... Odor-less stuff would be awesome, my sense of smell is pretty good and anything with powerful fumes makes my nose burn like I shoved a match lit with hell-fire up my nose lol.

@ AussieTrooper: you are supose to be able to use it, the seller at the hardware said me I can use it with fiberglass sheet. I will try it tonight and will be able to show the result tomorrow.

@Spartan857: I dont know if you can find some in the state, but try to find epoxy 14-08 in some specialized hardware maby you will find. This type of epoxy give a totaly clear reasult, they just dont have any color after the mix and the time he dry.

You should still probably wear a respirator, fumes don't have to have odor to be poisonous.

Ok so I put the fiberglass sheet inside and I will have to wait for tomorrow.

Haha yes I where a respirator it not because he do not smell anything, that is not toxic.

Sounds like a urethane resin as opposed to a polyester resin. Much better for safety reasons (most people who reccomend fiberglass forget to mention its highly toxic nature). And it can be used with fiberglass cloth/matt as easily as the polyester resins. And it's less brittle!

Epoxy Resin
Epoxy Resin is sold at boating supply stores. It comes in two bottles as a two part mixture. Part A is the resin and Part B is the hardener. Epoxy resin is more expensive than Polyester 'fiberglass' resin but epoxy resin is far superior in every way. If you have spent several hours laboring over a piece of artwork carved from pink or blue foam... the only resin I would put on it is EPOXY RESIN. It is super strong, dries fast, and has a beautiful crystal clear finish. It is well worth the extra money. It can be applied to all kinds of things; artwork, boats, furniture, cars, etc. My understanding is that epoxy resin came along years after polyester 'fiberglass' resin. Epoxy resin is newer and state of the art. It also has the ability to glue things together while still remaining flexible. And yes, you can apply epoxy resin to things like boats and theater set pieces in conjunction with fiberglass sheets. So polyester 'fiberglass' resin is by no means the only resin used with fiberglass. Note: some art stores carry small bottles of epoxy resin but (as it usually states on the container) they are typically only to be used for small art pieces and are not suitable for larger objects.

Don't how much resin to buy to go with the fiberglass?

A good rule of thumb is to calculate 65% fiberglass to 35% resin by weight. Use 60% to 40% as a safe factor. For example:

1 yard of 8 ounce fabric at 38 inches wide weighs 224 grams

1 yard of 10 ounce fabric at 38 inches wide weighs 280 grams

(224/60%) X 40% = 149.3 grams of resin needed

1 gallon of resin = 4239 grams (1.12 g/cc)

1 gallon is 128 fluid ounce
*
1 fluid ounce of resin = 33.17 grams

So for every square yard of 8 ounce fabric, you will need 4.50 fluid ounces of mixed resin

I used to use epoxy on my RC aircraft but never knew it could be used with fibreglass.

I've been doing some reading up on my own, and epoxy resin is even rated to be less hazardous and stronger than polyester resin.

Hi here is the update with the sheet of fiberglass, It give a totally clear result. It hard but I will not sit my self on it, I just put one layer of sheet inside. Here is the pic hope you like it.

Is the fiberglass still flexible or it's rock hard?

It hard but it also flexible, I will say that it more flexible than hard but they only have one layer inside.

Yeah after 2 coats, the 2 layers should be really compact. Still a bit flexible so it don't shatter (éclate) but relatively hard.

Is the Epoxy Resin sticky or it doesn't stick well to the fiberglass?
