I got to meet so many people tonight for a change! i loved meeting everyone as well. I took pictures for the soaring hammer group as well as Ithica, his wife (not sure if she has an account on here), Savvytank, Pinky, fluffy, myself (though no armor right now ;n;) all the helpful GS employees, some customers having a good time an in awe of ithica an company's work... I can't remember the account names of the others, but there were two others besides those guys from the 405th there. oh and moonwildflower as well. it was great meeting all of you. Though I took all of these photos an even some video it wasn't my camera so you'll have to wait for ithica to get on an post them up... just bug him to death, i'm sure he'll get them up eventually. it was alot of fun though... minus the part about totally setting myself up for failure when i called myself an airplane an to ride me.... the gang will remember... i made such a fool of myself. lol. too much energy drink, one was enough. lol

I wasn't expecting much, but it was alot more fun than I thought it would be! I'm only dissapointed that I didn't have my own finished armor so I could show it off like the rest of them. On that note... ithica's latest helmet is so big on me... i can't breath out of my nose, lol.

anyway, pictures of the event to come!

HEre's some pick of my odst outfit at my midnight opening in best buy, working was a blast, BORING only 6 customers, but everyone loved it. Even 2 managers and the GM (big BOss).

Going Home to play

The launch down here was quite disappointing. Only about 30 people showed up. Then again, there are several other game stores nearby that were doing midnight openings too.

Got home with the game at about half past midnight, booted it up and co-opped through Legendary campaign with two friends straight away. It was great fun, really looking forward to some Firefight action now =D

i wish i could have gotten the game last night...but my mom said that she was tired and she wakes up a 6AM every weekday so she can wake up my little brother. so I'm waiting for my bro to get home so we can go get ODST @ gamestop and enjoy it's awesomeness!!! :eek

anybody wanna play later? :3

Sadly i have glandular fever, so i was not able to get my ODST armour to a wearable level, and the EB games i work at isn't doing a midnight launch anyway... major letdown, i just hope i can have my armour ready for an upcoming con...

I wasn't as pleased with the ODST launch event as the previous events through the week. I think I kinda preferred the events where there was a steady stream of traffic of people coming through to interact with. A Midnight launch event is kinda like a layover at the airport.. the same 30 people in the room for 2-3 hours, slowly getting more and more bored with looking at each other. Eventually you get to talk to everyone, just because there's nothing else to do.

I did talk up the 405th quite a bit and there are some people from the event that I fully anticipate that will join up now.. who are very intent on making or acquiring armor.

When I first came in they were in the middle of a Halo 3 tournament, and it felt a little like I was interrupting them. I hung out at the counter, answered questions, took pics with fans, and handed out cards. Went outside and shot more pics, came back inside and waited for midnight to come.

Once midnight rolled around everyone's attitude changed. People were excited, posing for more pics. I handed out the first games to customers from behind the counter and wisecracked about how the cases felt a disc or two lighter than they should.

Once everyone made their way through the register, we packed it up to go home and play. The store hooked me up with a free copy of ODST and another game of my choosing.

BTW, I painted up one of Adams AR's he gave me at Dragoncon '08 at the last minute. I figured I should change up the Energy Sword for the night although I brought it and demo'ed it for the customers.

It was a good night and a fitting end to a very hectic few months for me. Now I can get my life back in order, clean house, sort out orders and prices, and take my time to make the suit perfect now that the game assets are fully available..

Here's the pics:

BTW, the guy you see in the photo giving me my copy of the game is this guy Ira.. he's an ex-pro Halo player and runs the store with the owners. Apparently he's been to Bungie studios on more than one occasion back in the Halo1/2 days when he was top ranked.. We traded stores of Halo nerddom.. and discussed getting him some props to start a collection. I may be contacting a few of you making stuff to place orders for him in the near future.

Additionally, they're carrying our cards at the front counter of their store now too. Go 405th!

Great launch! See you guys online!

Great stuff as always Sean, and that AR looks dang nice! I love the energy sword, but it's awesome to see your ODST outfitted with a more... traditional weapon. :p

Sadly, I preordered the game at Hastings. They were having a "release party" Which turned out to be nothing. No pizza, no games, nothing. Me and my girlfriend said screw it and headed over to gamestop. They had about 50 people in line, There was a tv set up and there was a H3 free for all. I only brought my mark six which at first people were hesitant to talk to me, but after a few minutes of talking, people asked to see it and I let some try it on, then the gamestop employees took some pictures and talked to me.

I know just a mark six is sort of lame but I had to represent. Then we went back to stupid Hastings so I can get my copy, turns out they didnt even reserve it for me, it was just a giftcard. They suck! But I got my sgt johnson code anyhow.

Man, the midnight release line was pretty damn long, but hats off to my local GameStop. They used that voucher system and they had us in and out of there like in 5 minutes. Not sure if they all did that or not.

No one had any home made armor though. I should have taken pictures of the guy who was drunk off his ass though. He killed time between picking up his voucher at 10 PM and picking up his game at midnight by hanging out at the T.C. Gator's Bar right next to GameStop. Guy ended up playing 2 hours of beer pong. Man, that guy was g-o-n-e.

Choice pieces of dialogue:

"Hey, you guys getting ODST?!"

"Man... A LOT of people play f***ing Halo!"

"WHOA! HALO CHICKS! You girls play Halo!?!"

"Man, I f***in' kicked ass in beer pong!!!"

:rolleyes

So I didn't have an ODST costume, but I managed to finish putting together a Spartan costume 3 hours before the midnight release. I was scrambling to get it done, worked for 4 days each about 5-7 hours on it. The torso is one that Adam let me borrow.

I got there at around 10:30 and there was a line of about 30 people, the gamestop manager greeted me as I walked up and told me to go to the front of the line. I turned heads when I was walking up the line to the front, heard a few "wow" "thats cool" and a bunch of other chattering that I couldn't make out. A couple people took pictures but there seemed to be a lot of haters there for some reason. Probably because they thought I just went up and cut in front of the line or they were jealous, who knows hah.

Anyways I was the first guy up and the manager gave me an ODST strategy guide and $40 giftcard. So it was pretty cool, still need to modify and trim pieces, I could barely move in the suit.

I didn't have an ODST costume but I had one of Adam's marine costumes I used at work it was fun I'm waiting for my co-workers to send me more photos then this one. Very Bad camera phone photo.

Over night at my store so a lot of mess in the background.

Great photos everyone.

My night was less than steller, but I still had a good time. I had bowling league Monday night and headed over to Walmart afterward. Arrived about 9:30 and was first in line. The second person in line showed up at about 11:15. :'(

Needless to say I had plenty of time to talk up the sales staff. They had three cases of ODST, 90 copies. I live in a college town, so I had no doubt they would sellout by the next day.

I did have my helmet with me and let the folks in line try it on for pictures. So that was fun. At midnight I counted a total of ~20 people in line, people were still arriving as I left the store.

Rushed home jumped online only to find out no matchmaking for firefight and the friend I was supposed to join online fell asleep. grrr

Luckily, I caught Sean/Matt & friends online and joined their game. Gotta love that security zone level~!

So things ended up well. Even made to work on time this morning. :D
