It might only look like WETA's because the tiny details are there, rivets and such...

The shape of it is much much closer to the Halo 3 suit though.
But there are still quite a few differences there too.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a more detailed version of the H3 in-game model.

You have to remember that this is 500 years in the future ;)

And you have to remember that even 500 years into the future firearms still work on the same basic principal they did in the 21st.

The extra magazine slot makes the most sense based on what the ODSTs do, they don't have time to fumble for another magazine in the middle of a fight, and soldiers today are doing the same thing, affixing extra magazines to their weapons for fast changes.

It wouldn't be inconceivable to have magazines that can alternately feed from either side of the weapon. They already have to turn the rounds 90 degrees to feed into the chamber, so having a mechanism to select either right or left mag could be done, methinks.

im having trouble seeing the details. as far as i can gather its just a smg with a scope, a different bit under the scope and a large silencer.

anyone got any other pics of it?

ohyea, your right. just under the silencer right? a kina short little thing. didnt spot that. thanks. ive gotten my art of halo book and im forging away for some smg refrences atm.

well, i dont want to hijack this thread so if anyone gets any more pics pm em to me or post em in my thread in the pep section.

i think he means the metro AI will be advising you as to which ways are safe concidering it's got cammeras all over the city.

Should have been more, clear, yes, this is what I meant. I was just saying that I think that the Superintendent will be to the ODST what Cortana was to the Master Chief, as an analogy not as an exact reproduction of the circumstances from the previous games. The SI will be the person sort of telling you where to go and what to do. That little voice that moves the game along.

See, what I’m thinking is that since this is taking place immediately after regret bugged out and did a big number on New Mombassa, that the UNSC command will be a bit scattered. I am willingly to bet that there will be large parts of the game where you will be unable to get in touch with command or your squad and will be left “on your own.” In these cases the Superintendent will be helping you. Except instead of talking to you on your radio he will be offering clandestine help and hints through the city's infrastructure signs so as not to attract the attention of the covenant, just like how we warned the ODST away from the brutes and Covenant patrols there at the end. I am sure that you are right and the SI is very likely not a Smart A.I., so he can’t do the things Cortana could do, like hacking the Covenant battle net, but he can use his camera to watch patrols and then use the traffic signs and such that he does control to warn and advice you.

And, from the previous posts on Bungie.net, I bet one of your objectives will in fact to be to get in contact with the SI, or to get to the facility where he is stored.

I just got this random idea that it might be kind of funny if you had a little SI face icon in your HUD (like some guys had for their avatars here for a while) that changed its little expression depending on what was happening, like you get ambushed and the eyes get big, sort of like what was happening on his screens during the trailer.

I watched the video a ton of times today, and came to the same conclusion. AS the ODST steps out of the hole in the wall, the billboard shows "Keep Right". The trooper kind of glances to the left where the Covies went and the goes right, and the billboard changes to "Proceed wtih Caution". The Superintendent is a type of metropolitan overseer i think. He controls D.O.T, such as automatically placing detours to traffic when accidents happen etc among other things such as city maintenance. Would explain his various phrases "Keep it Clean" "Proceed with Caution". Even the one you can barely see in the original teaser "Maggie Where Are You?" (controls advertisement and missing people reports maybe?)

The gun is definetly a variant of the M7, theyll probably use M7S. Looks like it has a reflex holo sight, and the stock is extended a bit longer, the obvious suppressor, and what looks like a small flashlight or pointer. Hopefully we'll see a suppressed variant of the Model 6 as well. I havent checked the vid again, but is everyone sure its a second mag and not just the mag placed on the other side of the gun? it also has many ofthe same lights placed on the weapon as the original smg.

I watched the entire MajorNelson play by play on the TGS lastnight and this was the VERY LAST thing they showed. Along with a sick Resident Evil 5 trailer, new Star Ocean and the Last Remnant. Granted he presented it all in only text, but after it was over they provided links to all the new trailers and everything.

so exciting, but i REALLY hope they go somewhere with the end of HALO 3. Hopefull we'll lean more about H3:R tomorrow with the weekly update.

also. about the Vidmaster achievements.i doubt theyd give Recon armor away. all the fuss they caused with it, just to give it away for completing incredibly easy achievements? Glad i have all available achievements so far tho, "Alas, Poor Yorick" was a pain in my ass.

It's actually an SMG, bungie wanted to add this weapon to Halo 2, but they discarded it.
Your right though, it is a 'BR/smg' type weapon.

It was in Halo 2. The Vista Version. They put it in there so they could still have the benefit of it.

double posting, how could u :*(.

i was just thinking, if the gun we see is a variant of the SMG, then wouldn't the firepower have the same effect on brutes? essentially, it would still be a weak- a$$ gun, since u wouldn't be able to dual wield. just IMO.

Which is probably why you'd want to avoid toe to toe encounters with brutes when wielding the SMG. Maybe the new SMG variant uses armor piercing caseless ammunition for a harder punch. Right now all we can do is speculate. I am looking forward to learning more about the game.

yea i think your right on the more powerful ammo. the suppresser is much bigger which would allow the bullets to have more power behind em.

whould be kewl if you could pop the brutes from a distance and thin their numbers where needed.

out of curiosity, anyone spotted how he racks the gun and where the cases come out?

Now you guys have to remember this, no matter how bad*ss you think the spartans are, they're not, they are doing just what they were bred to do.

Now this guy, he is truly going to be a bad*ss, because even though he lacks the abilities of a Spartan-II he chooses to fight.

I personally relish this update, you will actually have a view of the mortality of your character, and connect with him/her deeper, where as you would distance yourself from a inhuman thing as a Spartan.

The UNSC wouldn't send their men out with sh*t weapons, this guy is going to be able to get the job done.

Oh one more thing, in real life, any soldier would fall back from those kind of odds, unless he had an advantage of some kind, where as here the ODST did not.

Where does he have to fall back to? The entire city is leveled and from what I understand he is by himself. It would be foolish of him to stay too near to the drop pod because Covenant forces are going to notice that steaming pile sooner or later. haha

But I wholeheartedly agree that this guy is a badass. And that is why he is a helljumper.
