The biggest problem facing powered armor, exoskeletons, etc. is power. Providing enhanced strength, endurance, regulating temperature, all uses power. Right now, batteries do not have the storage density needed for extended operations. One of the biggest problems they had with the Land Warrior system was the batteries. Anyway, until batteries or other energy storage mediums become vastly more efficient soldier augmentations won't be feasible. What I'm waiting for is powered armor a'la Starship Troopers (the book, not that ghastly film.) That would be sweet. Although, thinking about it, it's basically a Spartan with jump jets and some additional toys(nuclear rockets!!!) and about a thousand additional pounds.
