Hey Everyone!

I'm Jeremy Chang. I just joined a few weeks ago and have been baffled by tha amount of info on these forums. Its all just so helpful $.o . This is my first complete WIP thread and i plan on going all the way on this one, if cheaply. I'm in Bel air MD (heres a video on just how stupid our little town is), and I came across the 405th while i was looking for pep files for a mini master chief. After spending the last few weeks playing ODST, I've decided to (Temporarily) abandon my MKVI Armor(see signature)and build an ODST instead. I decided that i'd try armor building because i have been working with models like Gundams and Citadel miniatures, and i just got tired of it all. I was good at it, but spending 50 bucks on something thats 6 inches tall kinda pales in comparison to spending 50-100-300 bucks on something thats actual size. I've been working on this for a few weeks now, but somehow it seems that all my teachers have a telepathic ability to give craploads of Homework when I'm trying to work on a project. Oh well. i'll just do some of it in school and stick it to them later.

P.S. For those that have noticed, i'd like to take this chance to apologize for my accidental Necro posts and general n00bish actions. I kinda got carried away when searching for helmet info and ended up posting on several threads that were old. very old. Anyways i'd just like to say i'm sorry, and it (and stuff like it) won't happen again.

WARNING! THIS POST IS PICTURE HEAVY!!!

Then I went to reinforce the hell out of my helmet

(i'm terrified of warping)

Some planning stuff:

I plan to scratch build a number of pieces, especially the equipment plates and I'm going to skip the bicep armor plates and at the most, replace them with foam if it comes to it. This armor is being built for costume/convention stuff and backyard airsoft/nerf with wal-mart/Dick's quality guns. I am adding LEDs, cooling fans inside the helmet(I already have most of those parts soldered). This ODST will be a personal "ODST Chang" model and not modeled after existing fictional characters.

Thanx to Xtreme TACTICS 101 for the anti-warping tips and Shaymin Sky!

If you got any pointers or comments, i'd be happy to hear them.

Looks good so far.

If you are scared of warping, here is a tip for the helmet. Place 2-3 support struts where the key stress point of the helmet is. This is almost always the visor area, and the helmet opening. Whatever method of re-inforcement you are using, take your fiberglass/resin, smooth-cast 300/320, or Rondo/fiberglass and apply it around the visor, and around the rim of the helmet n the INSIDE first. Then remove the support struts, and continue to re-inforce the helmet. When its dry, there should be little (almost unnoticeable) to no warping. I managed to do this with my ODST and Mark 6 helmets, and no warping occured. I didn't even resin the helmets before hand.

Good luck!

I'm Getting a lot of work done throughout the week and got a LOT of planning done. (3 day weekends FTW) Although I cant really work on weekdays, I am hoping to have at least a Helmet done by "halo"ween. Unfortunately, it's starting to get cooler in MD, so Fiberglassing might be harder. I managed to get a number of pieces pepped, and i got some soccer greaves for my forearms and shins. I REALLY like how the (silver) forearm plates are, but i dont like the shins all that much. I'm going to get actual baseball greaves like Trooper did in his build. I am scratch building the equipment plates, and actually using the belt plate for my belt. I also raised the part of the CQ shoulder (that took me hours of searching to find) with cardboard.Anyways, here are some more pics. Enjoy!

Here is the Visor cut out i plan on using, using the template and material that trooper used in his build. I got the red visor in chinatown for about $3. I got the Orange sunglasses/visor in china when we visited my family. I plan on using the slide down sunglasses in my future Halo 3 Marine helmet. See This guy's helmet

I rondo-ed and sanded my ODST helmet and after a final sand, I think it will FINALLY be ready for detail. :lol

As for my weapon, i had a Assault rifle in the works, but after seeing this video I plan on taking the top of said pepakura, and That gun and creating something similar. I love nerf guns. Heres the LINK to my WIP. On a completely unrelated note, I found a "landmark" of sorts in my models. A scratch built Warthog AND some troopers that were ODST -inspired that i built about a year ago when i went to Games Workshop.

Ok, after almost a month of leaving this thread un-updated, This update will most likely be GIGAntic.

I've finally finished my ODST helmet and as a bonus, it was in time for haloween! I wore it to my church fall retreat and a nerf battle with my friends it got some pretty good reception! Everybody wants Assault rifles and helmets from me, and though i can't mould/cast, I can make those assault rifles individually pretty easily. (The WIP is in my sig.) Most of the pieces are fully pepped and in fiberglassing. the only pieces i still have no plan for are the shins, but i'm hoping i can get a decent pair of baseball greaves. However, I have absolutely no idea on how i'm going to strap this on, so I guess its back to stickies and "winging-it" for me. I usually get to do some work on mondays and sunday nights, but i'm running out of hardener constantly, and its starting to get colder/darker in MD. My full MA5 nerf recon can be seen somewhere below as well. Here are some progress pics of the helmet and other parts that i've done in the last month:

Partially painted pieces. Knees, beltplate, 1.6 shoulders, and a center piece. The big thing is for the torso. I plan on using that instead of making a torso piece and just use that to maintain flexibility and lessen weight. The rest just need to be battle scarred, blue-striped, and flat coated.

My med. patch. I would be glad if someone could verify the information placement on the patch...

how the soccer gauntlet looks on I plan on removing the logos all over my armor as soon as i can... i look like i'm 5 in this picture...

These pieces have begun to annoy me. I don't know why, but they are increasingly stubborn, hard to rondo, and extremely warp-prone.

Feedback is appreciated!

Great work. What did you use to line the inside of the helmet? That isn't something that is documented a lot. I'd love to know what you did.

Yeah THAT posed a MAJOR problem when i designed the interior. Basically, i used the type of foam used to protect wargaming miniatures, camera cases, the spongy kind of foam. i used a mini saw and scissors to cut the shapes a motorcycle helmet padding would be and covered it w/ hot glue in some soft olive drab cloth remnants from jo-ann's fabric.

Wow amazing....I can't even figure out how to do my ODST helmet...I got the pepkura file but it's all so new to me but wow awesome.

Your armor is looking pretty sweet mate! Could you post a couple pics of the inside of the helm? I'd like to see what you did in terms of the electronics sweet. Especially the fans.

Thanks and Cheers!

due to the fact that i hate it when threads die i decided to post.

your doing fine man, just keep working on it and it will be done eventually, what resin did you use and where did you get it?

Haven't been able to get much done due to the holiday, HW, Church, and whatnot, but i did finish a shoulder! another piece down! also painted a bunch of others. Waiting on getting gloves, greaves, straps, and a vest to begin mounting things...

Thanks alot for the support and keeping my thread alive :D lol! The resin is simple Bondo Fiberglass resin available for purchase in an obscure shelf at a wal-mart near you. as for the grey stuff, thats Rondo/Mud. a mixture of the two hardened with liquid hardener. i'm lazy, so heres my simple layer at finish.

Thanks for all the Feedback guys! I really appreciate it!

Since I am trapped in my house due to epic proportions of snow (Maryland), I decided to update stuff. I Haven't gotten many more pieces done, but I have been setting up the pieces i have done for strapping and mounting. So far, its looking good, but I think there might be some build/proportion issues... Anyways, pretty much the entire top half is done except the back/torso piece, which i am waiting for Chicago screws/plans on. Here are some pics of me suited up, glad to hear opinions/impressions.

(Sorry for the pic size, My cell camera is kinda wierd about that...

Sith, what are those gloves? While I just have to have Sean's ODST gloves, I'd also like to have gloves that are closer to the gloves worn by the ODSTs in Halo 3. These look pretty good.
