Alright, if you haven't guessed by the title this is my thread on making a pulse grenade. I am making/carving this grenade from this 4"x4" cube of pressure treated wood left over from a home improvement project, then adding the little spikes. I want this to be as accurate as possible.

After over an hour of using the belt sander, I have taken the original rough block down into a perfect cube of wood. I know it doesn't look like much, but it was very hard to actually make it symmetrical. because this is so small, and because I want to become better at this, I am trying to make this grenade a perfect copy, not just "good enough" like most of my other stuff.

Looks like you're off to a good start. I will say, however, that pine is generally a poor choice for modeling as it is sappy and splits easily. Also, be sure and be careful working with that pressure treated wood. The chemicals used to treat it can be very bad for your if you breath any of the dust from cutting.

you're right, It's soaked in like copper, chromium, and arsenic I think (am I remembering that right?) I can't imagine inhaling arsenic is healthy by any means. And here I was thinking I was past the whole airmask thing.

More progress!

I used the belt sander some more to bevel the edges properly to match my reference image

my next step will be to put the X in across the sides and to try to dent it in like it shows. anyone have any ideas for how to grind into my block in an inverted pyramid like that?

I would use a "V" shaped carving tool, a mouse sander, and an assortment of files. Also, where the orange line between the spikes are, that has a slight recess from the edges. It is really hard to explain, but I think most people underestimate the gnarly angles and detail this grenade has. It will be nice to see another one out there :)
