i would just like to know if when i paint my helmet do i use spray paint cans or use a paintbrush and bucket.

No... not always, use a Spray-can to get it smooth and uniform. Use a small brush to apply little details after the spray-can paint has dried

As said before, use the spray can for smoothness. But make sure that you don't start spraying while aimed at the helmet. Always start and stop OFF the piece you're doing, otherwise piling occurs. Piling looks awful. AWFUL. (Piling BTW, for those who don't know, is when the paint layers thickly producing drip patterns and bubbles.)

and don't forget to hold the can away from the helmet, at least the distance mentioned on the can (usually about 1 foot), but even farther is better to my opinion (about 2 feet). It will cost more paint, and you're going to need to do more layers, but it gives you the best quality (again, to my opinion)
