Hey guys. Quint here with some absolutely horrible news. We had an unsubstantiated email come in about 20 minutes ago telling us that Stan Winston passed away last night. I couldn’t find any reference to it online at the AP wire, Variety, CNN or anywhere, so I figured it wasn’t true.

Then a second email came in, which made my heart drop into my stomach, a new person saying the same thing, without any backup. I asked for clarification and got it, so I got on the phone with a friend of mine who knows Winston and got the confirmation.

RIP Big guy.

Stan Winston: 1946 - 2008
Source: Superhero Hype! June 16, 2008

Special effects and makeup guru Stan Winston passed away on Sunday, June 15th in Los Angeles, California. He was 62.
Winston died at home Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma.

Winston was best known for his work for the "Terminator," "Jurassic Park" and "Predator" series, and Edward Scissorhands. The 3-time Oscar winner most recently worked on Iron Man and was special effects supervisor on the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Winston won Oscars for Aliens (1986), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1992) and Jurassic Park (1993).

It's a shame, his fx skills have been the best in the industry for a long time. A lot of my fave movies have his name attached to them.

Died early from breathing too many fumes and stuff no doubt.
Let that be a lesson to noobs here who are considering to apply resin without a respirator. Just because it's about $30.

$30 goes a long way when it's your life your dealing with.

The superherohype links had this to say:

Winston died at home Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma.

Wiki says this:

Multiple myeloma (also known as MM, myeloma, plasma cell myeloma, or as Kahler's disease after Otto Kahler) is a type of cancer of plasma cells which are immune system cells in bone marrow that produce antibodies. Myeloma is regarded as incurable, but remissions may be induced with steroids, chemotherapy, thalidomide and stem cell transplants. Myeloma is part of the broad group of diseases called hematological malignancies.

It is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.. not the lungs.

he truely was an inspiration to anyone who builds props. its a shame no more movies will have his imaginitave touch behind them

heard this from my friend (who worked on Iron Man). I had met Stan almost a year ago (when I first moved to Cali). He looked healthy and strong. Sad how fast cancer can take over you.

Hollywood lost another legend. RIP.

:( Sad Face

Lets pay tribute by buying all of his things which I bet will shortly be posted on eBay.

But Seriously, that sucks....If I had an hero in the FX business it would be him.

I wonder how Jurassic Park IV and Terminator IV will hold up :(
