Strapping Your Boots To Your Boots

Ok so this has been bugging me for a long time.

I dont know how i need to connect my Halo boots to my actual boots/shoes i wear underneath.

I just had my boots kinda lie on my shoes by padding the inside of the boots but that still made the toe piece a pain in the ass.

I connected it all with some elastic bands (not rubber bands =P). However this failed terribly.

Is there anyone who knows how to do this? or has there been a topic on this before? if so i didnt find it =(

Anyway, thanks in advance

A friend of mine posted a topic not too long ago asking the SAME question. I don't really think there is ONE set way of doing it. There are times in making armor when you just have to get creative and figure stuff out. :p

Since the shoes I am using are ones that I don't really wear out anymore, I used 2 small nails and nailed the toe piece to my shoe. It holds up pretty good too. I already walked around with it on and it seems to hold pretty well. :) For the back piece of the boot, I will be nailing that on as well.

To go along with the post above, there was a thread someone said they actually screwed it into their boot and then used spot putty to conceal the screw holes.

this is interesting, ive been looking around for a good way to attach them also. but i was going to go with really strong velcro.. but this screw system sounds much better...

Good thing I bought my boots at walmart then. I wouldnt want to put screws in 80 dollar tactical boots, but 30 dollar ones I will. I think I'll wait on some tutorial though :lol

Just another idea for you, I know I saw someone that put painters tape over their shoe and then put the toe cap piece where its supposed to ride and filled in between with Great Stuff expanding foam insulation. When it dried they trimmed the excess and it made a mold of the shoe and a reinforcement for the toe piece at the same time. I think they said that they didn't even permanently connect the pieces after that as the fit was so perfect it stayed in place when everything was put together.

This is actually how I'm planning on doing mine.

if there shoes or boots that arent going to be used for anything other than the costume use silicone caulking on the shoe and mount the toe and heel on . if you use silicone caulking instead of adhesives it will give a little (expand and contract) as you walk . i havent tried this yet myself but this is what i intend to do with my builds. your boots wont end up all hard from the glue instead it would be like a gel layer between the boot and prop

hope this helps

My boots are a 2 piece, and here is what I did... My real boots were a set of old timberlands I had. I epoxied a couple neodymium magnets to the back of the boot and back of the Halo boot where they meet. That held the back half together. The only downside was putting on the boot was a pain in the butt after the rest of the armor was on. For the toe I just hot glued a fat strip of industrial velcro to the top of my boot and bottom of the Halo toe section. I filled the side with some foam padding, so it had a little wiggle.

I'm in the process of my redo on all my armor now, and for the boots I'm going to split the back half like on a 3 piece boot, and use a couple of the clicking strap and buckle thingies from an old set of rollerblades to connect them. I'll have it in my WIP for reference later. For the toe I'm probably going the screw route on the sides of the toe and boot, and making it permanent. Then like someone else mentioned I'll fill it with foam.

Oh and watch where you put the toe section or when you walk it'll hit the ground, floor or whatever. It really irritated me last year, haha. I hope this gave you some help and maybe some ideas.
