You got some serious battle damage going on there lol, I would suggest spraying the helmet with a clear flat to reduce the shine some to help you silver scratches to show beter in brighter light or the shine will hide the silver also the flat will help hide any imperfections in the casting

Yeah dude it was a six hour paint job. Pulled an all-nighter until 7 AM ha ha. But yeah I was wondering how to reduce the glossy shine. I'll definitely look into the clear flat, thanks!

By the way, might I ask what brand, and perhaps where, I could acquire said flat clear spray?

duuuude... commando paint job turned out awesome... you should be very proud of that, i couldn't have done any better myself. well done :D ...

Thanks buddy! I spent forever on it. I can't take all the credit on it though. I didn't build it like you built yours. I have yet to fashion one as high of detail as your helmets.

Helmet is looking great so far. Looks like you got skills with the brush. LOL. Did you ever get the biceps right? I don't remember seeing anything about them after the last sizing issue. Keep up the good work.

No dude :( Sadly I never got to restart those, as I moved back to Austin for school, and my entire work station with my materials are at home. But I think I'm gonna end up doing them in foam. I don't like sacrificing the durability of fiberglass, but I have foam readily available and it seems fast and easy to work with, so I'm sacrificing strength for convenience. I think I'm actually going to build the torso out of foam first before I move on to the biceps, just to get used to using larger pieces. However, if you think I should approach this a different way, please let me know. I'm open to all ideas.

Thank you Mr. DBmike! I'm gonna have to get some tips on your Ironman build, cause I plan to do that next year

No worries, I haven't done a lot in that yet tbh. All I've done is the helmet and I need to re do that again to fix a few problems I now know how to solve.
But if you need some help I'll be happy to give it :)

Okay, so I've watched and read countless foam armor tutorials, and I still have no idea how to work with it. I'm using the V3 foam template right now, have found that a lot pieces are left out, and thus, pieces aren't fitting together. Here is a general idea of what I'm going through:

Can someone please explain to me how I'm supposed to make this fit together? :*(

Looks almost like its kinds the wrong way round but since I built mine from scratch I can't say for sure.

Does this perhaps look a little better?

Yeah. That looks pretty good. I know what you mean about things not necessarily working right with the foam. I had my fair share of issues when I rebuilt my son's cod this last week. I wound up just using the pep cod as a template for the overall size and then I did a lot of scratch stuff. If you're unhappy with some of the way the foam joints are, you can use the 3mm craft foam sheets that you can get at Hobby Lobby or Michael's and cover those parts up with that to make it smoother.

You're chest piece is looking good though. Just out of curiosity. . . I know you said you went back to Austin for school, but why can't you do the pep work there? Is it because you're in dorms or lack of space at an apartment? Like is said. . . Just curious. Keep up the good work though.

Thanks for the comments! I think it's looking good only in the pictures though...I'm not exactly satisfied with it in real life. But then again, maybe it'll turn out good when it's finished. I'm actually familiar with the 3mm sheets. They're what I used to line my Mark VI helmet with, but I never thought of using them to smooth over the joints, so thanks for that tip. I'm really scared to do anything scratch because I'm still learning the foam technique and getting edges right is extremely difficult. I can never cut a straight angle...it always comes out choppy and uneven, even when I score it for a guideline. I've watched videos and asked 405th members about angles, and I still can't get it...

As for moving, I guess I could do pepping, but I wouldn't be able to fiberglass, resin, and bondo anything. I don't have a workshop or an area outside to work in. I mean, there is plenty of space in my apartment to do all the cutting-folding-gluing, but there is nowhere to use the respiratory-hazardous materials. I thought about the apartment's parking garage, but even then, I'd have to leave the parts out to cure, and something is bound to happen to them if I were to just leave them sitting unattended. Pepping is my preferred method, but since I can't do that, I'm doing foam as of now. On top of that, time is a huge issue. For the most part, I can only work weekends, and even then time is scarce, studying and classes and such. Despite the inability to use the toxic materials, I have found that someone else I know from my Wushu class has been interested in building armor for a long time, and he gave a non-toxic alternative suggestion using a sort of paper mache pulp. I've never heard of it before he mentioned it, and he said that someone on the 405th invented it, so I think we're gonna give it a try on Monday (since we don't have class due to Labor Day) or some weekend following. I just really wanna get most of the armor done by halloween, but I don't think that's gonna happen...

Have Faith!!!!!! You've got this month and next to get done what you need to get done. I believe in you. . . LOL :p

I think it's looking good. Don't give up on it at all and don't rush yourself, I've hardly done anything this past few weeks because of moving house so I know it's frustrating.
Keep going at it and your foam skills will only get better :)

Ha ha oh no, I don't plan to give this up for a long time, I'm too obsessed with this hobby, and I never let my projects go unfinished. I'm just gonna have to learn to pace myself and get some sleep ha ha!

New updates to the armor: Here is what I have so far, and I'm starting to see it really coming together. There are a bunch of rough edges and parts that could have probably been shaped better, but hey, that's what comes from being a noob at foam building.

Ha ha for sure! I'm probably gonna finish it tonight too, then it's on to a new piece of armor with another story. I'm pretty sure I saw First Strike and The Flood too
