What about making an energy sword or at least an elite armor

The weapons would be easy, its the armor part that would be hard, cause of the elites slouched bodies and irregular heads.

uhh.. irregular heads aren't bad.. they're very tall so your head goes into the neck area.

I'd be more concerned with the reverse kneejoints.. our legs don't bend like that. There ARE solutions out there for that though.. check with the Star Trek costume groups.. anyone?

As for the Plasma sword... shhh! I hope to be making one in the next couple of weeks. I've made blueprints and stuff for it already.

My weakspot at this point is the details on the handle.. with vacuumforming, there are limitations that I need to work around. I'd love to cast it but have no experience doing that. I'm also in need of reference pics for the Halo 2 handle.. the Halo one and Halo CE custom ones are everywhere. (they're different).

I might just go for a basic handle that's easier to carry, rather than a game accurate version, but I dunno' yet.

the elite costume has been done... full size too. Looks pretty cool with what he did with it. Makes me imagine how a professional could do it.

well now i know were all glad i menchoned the elite costume.dont know how to spell menchoned!LOL

what about the halo1 masterchief armor anybody look forward to making that?

I THOUGHT about it.. and almost did it instead of Halo 2 just before Halo 2 came out.. but I couldn't ignore the coolness factor of Halo 2 armor, even though we didn't have many reference pics at the time. :)

Go back and do it now...? I dunno'.. it's just not as cool except in a retro way

That's sweet!

The last pic though (where the blade light is off), is that a different version or something? the handle width looks totally different.

Also heres some pics of the Energy Sword I made. Just got it done....well mostly done. I will be writing a photo-rich tutorial for this, so be patient. It looks a little brighter here than it really is...

Hope you like it.

Energy Sword

Thanks for the input everybody. A couple responses;

Link4044; I actually used EL wire for this, just two six foot sections encased inside the plexi. The plexiglass is frosted from the outside so the whole blade glows a bit, but still gives it that lightning looking pattern. 2.3 mm EL wire is about $1.15 per foot, and the power inverters are about $9 each.

For EL wire go to http://www.vibelights.com Best prices on the net.

Deadguy: The pic you're talking about is an exploded view with the handle opened up so you could see the power inverter board an the battery pack. I didn't put up a detail pic of the handle yet because I'm still working on it.

Redsleighdown: I've have a Tutorial for you all soon as I can. Thats deffinately the first on my list. Besides I didn't want to trump anyone elses efforts 'cause I know some others are working on this too.

And if anyone wants a fast, cheap Halo prop, check out the off the shelf Plasma Grenade I found.

It's a laser level that looks like it must have been designed by a fan of Halo. The pictures don't do it justice. It's really bright. The color scheme is nearly perfect. Just take the lettering off with a little Acetone and it's good to go.

Best thing...they were only $4.99 at Radio Shack. Buy 3 and juggle 'em!

I think I just peed a little.. Those laser balls Rock!

Are they really that bright? It seems odd that they don't show-up all lit up where they're selling them.

My usual supplier on EL sheet and wire is
http://beingseentechnologies.goemerchant2.com

NEVER AGAIN! that vibelights site has some killer pricing.

Thanks for the head's up on this stuff, and congrats on making stuff you can really be proud of. Now I'm kinda' hesitant to keep going with my plasma sword... Mine was gonna' turn heads.. but not like that one!

One thing you might not be aware of, that might turn your sword into the be-all-end-all plasma sword (like it isn't already!) .. You can dim those wires... which means you should be able to imitate something similar to the pulse effect in the game if you wanted to.
