i've got my pep all bondoed and smoothed, well somewhat smoothed. there's small scratches that come from sanding. when i prime these pieces will the scratches go away. if so what paint do i use and how many coats?

hey,

well for mine i sanded using 80 grit and then went up to 120, that gives you a much smoother surface. its best to sand using a high grit after the bondo process just before you want to give it the final finish as this can take away alot of the scratches a lower grit can make..

for example i bondoed my bicep piece then sanded using 80g then 120g, then primed to see any defects (like more scratches, dents stuff like that, if there are then just sand them away in the same method)

after that if you think its fine, just prime with a dark grey or black one coat, and then after that is your final colour. but the spray brand is up to you to decide as there are so many out there.

anyway hope that helps, thats the way im making my armour.

deeper scratches, us bondo spot and glazing putty. As above, sand, but I'd go up to 250-350 grit. primer, paint!

Using filler primer is also a good idea for those small but noticeable scratches. You can find it anywhere that sells automotive paints. If you want it to be perfectly smooth, don't be afraid to go even into the 400-600 grit range. These are usually wet/dry type paper.

Another good thing I like to do is use Drywall Spackle. Just spread it around as flat as you can, and sand it down with a really fine grit. I find it easier to work with than Bondo, and is much easier to sand. Your muscles will thank you.

what I do to smooth finally is I paint on a few thin layers of liquid wax, this makes it as smooth to the touch as sanding with 1000 grit sandpaper and fills in the tiny tiny surface cracks if there are any. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the liquid wax but im sure a few mins of googling should do the trick!
