I found these at AC Moore, a craft store similar to Michaels. They are in a year-round holiday decoration section, I'm not sure if they're ornament holders or just custom ornaments.
Smaller than the real dimensions of a plasma, but a 6" ball is giant.
Smaller one is 2 1/4", cost $ 0.79; bigger one is 3", cost $ 0.99.
They come in halves and snap together, would be easy to add LEDs and such inside. There's a small tab on the top of both halves, but it can be easily removed with a hacksaw or dremel.
