Thanks MC Hammer and Eric. My dad thinks it would be best if only he went, the only reason I can think of is when his father died no one told him till after the funeral so I think he wants to be alone with his mother at her funeral to make up for his father. i dont know. But he's really messed up with me....

As far as teh scope I found this cheap-o one on ebay and its 10.5" long which is nearly perfect considering the SR scope thingy is 11" Ill be able to make it work I think... unless I find a scope that is 11" long, then I'll go with that.

And, last night (I couldnt sleep) I fixed in the Bridge thingamajinger that goes over in front of the scope. So when I get home for lunch I'll throw in the barrel and take a picture to give a general Idea what the finished rifle will look like. Bondoing may or maynot start this weekend....

I was just wondering about the scope and how, well, it doesnt look like the SR one, lol.

Example

I was just wondering if I put a plexiglass/plastic cover over the scope that fits snug into the full face of the SR scope housing, will It magnify (?) the scope to make it look full faced?

Ok, that made no sense lol. If anyone has any idea how to rephrase this and then give me an answer id be very grateful :]

This is a frontal view, note that everythign seems out of place because I wasnt centered when I took the pic, I promise everythign is as centered as I could get it. Also the barrel I just tossed in and didnt bother to straighten it out.

I just thought this shot looked cool, heh.

Ok this looks reallllly bad. The back part is a bit warped but i'll fix that when I Bondo, the scope is also not straight because I forgot to check to make sure it was straight befor I superglued/resined it on.... easily fixed since Ive already redone it twice already lol.

Does the barrel look long enough to you guys? I can always make it longer since the PVC runs the entire length of the body (inside). Oh and the magazine is the disposable one and I ripped out the internal cradle to instal the knobby thingy and I havnt replaced it, which means that the magazine is NOT in its correct position!

SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?!?!?! Eh??

I'll see how it looks with 2 extra inches...

and can no one think of a way to decode my previous post about the scope housing problem?

I think that thing is awesome looking... I want one.

I have a question though... why the big deal about a real scope inside? If it were mine i'd just make a round lensish looking thing on the end and call it a day... just me though.

Belated apologies on the loss of your loved one.

EDIT:
PS:
Maybe about 2 inches longer?...

my obssession with the scope is a personal problem, lmao. I actually usually carry a rifle scope in my truck just because i like to look at stuff thats really far away (like across the island or the moon, etc. Im weird) and I just think it would be totally sweet to have a realistic Halo sniper rifle minus the firepower (ill think about that one later, lol)

Its just my weird habits takin over again...

"thatswhatshesaid" hahahahahah i KNEW someone would say that!

Well thats fine, I mean its your baby - I hope you fissure out a way to get it in there.

It will only add to it's final sweetness.

Ok last night I noticed that with the barrel in place the rifle is REALLY front-heavy and I'm worried the legs wont be able to hold the weight for too long..... does anyone have any suggestions?

I thought maybe adding big metal washers on the opposite end (the part thats at the "butt" of my rifle) to add more weight to the back....but that would only make it uber heavy lol.

anyone?

It's looking pretty cool! I haven't really been following this thread, so you might have thought of something like this: To make it look really cool, you could make the stand/legs out of aluminum or something, it wouldnt be to difficult, and it would look great, Plus you could fold it up (it would be easier for transport and use at conventions).
(sorry to hear about the problems with your dad, hope it works out in the end)

Huh.... interesting. I dont knwo anything about metals or anything but aluminum is lightweight and heavyduty, right? and how do you mean I can "fold" them? oh wow this sounds like a grand idea..... is it posible to make a aluminum skin for my rifle before I bondo it? oh the possibilities!

portalman meant you can swing the legs up to move it here and there easier, i think :D

thin aluminum sheets can be bent pretty easily, but the folds needed for like a the sniper rifle or any other gun/weapon would be tricky....

but you know they sell aluminum tape in hardware stores and you could just cut it and put it on the gun afer its resined but I doubt you can bondo it after.

Is the aluminum tape really strong? maybe I can put a layer of that on, then put another one or two coats of resin on top of that before bondoing? omg i am SO loving this idea....

Awe-som-a! Fantastic work on that, BRI! :D

Having the barrel in place really helps to give one an idea of what it'll look like finished. Pretty damn impressive, there.

As for the length of the it, I would agree you should make it longer by at least a few more inches. That should be all you need.

Regarding the scope, personally I would try to mimic the in-game version. If and when I get around to making one of these myself, I'll be putting in green LEDs for the rear portion just as it's seen in the game.

EDIT: Using aluminum for the support legs is a good idea, so as to avoid any issues with the front-heavy nature of the SR. I don't know if that would be plausible for the rest of it (ie. covering the SR in an aluminum "skin"), as that could greatly add to its overall weight, and you want to avoid it being too heavy when you're carrying it around...

sadly its not really that strong, it only makes the surface your putting it on look like aluminum, I think the resin wont stick to it though.

Aww thanks Eric!

Isnt aluminum really lightweight though? I have an aluminum bicycle and i can lift it with 2 fingers easily.... The weight isnt really a problem for me since I have a comfortable carrying load of 90lbs (When I worked for UPS I found this out) NOT THAT IM GONNA MAKE MY RILFE 90 FREAKIN POUNDS or anything lol. As for the aluminum legs... I'll see what I can do... I can already tell If I do that its gonna take me a helluva long time to build the legs and make them look perfect, then have them link inside the rifle, make a clicky thingy so I can lock the legs up/down for travelling purposes but keep it hiden so the SR still looks like a Legit Halo Weapon.....

well, guess my armor build is gonna get pushed back on my schedule even more... lol
