It depends if you can get the pattern right, couldn't you just buy some kind of rubber grip, it would probably save a lot of time.

I looked around for nitrile or latex sheets but only came across heavy duty plastic....and it was sold by the roll....a roll 100'X4' lol. There isnt much to offer down here on this damned rock.... woah, Deja Vu :lol:

I am gonna be very specific on the detail, I have evrything measured out adn if I can get the Butt how I like it I will be actually drilling in the screws like you see in-game and whatnot.

:D tis true, it was a pain in teh arse to unfold too.

There are rubber sprays (silicone) out there on the internets, i think i read something like a truck bed liner spray with a rubbery texture....but then again that was a while ago.

Sweet! I just got my Rifle Scope in the mail! woooohooo! I'll fix up the house tongiht and i'll start the real work on it once I have the main rifle body done.

hey for a grip buy a dye sticky grip for a paintball gun...they have an assortment of colors and are designed for pistol grips

@Link: Me too :]

@friendly: Yes sir

@Tenacious: Are those grips easy to modify.. or can i get a custom one? I think i'll stick with the liquid plastic I have, it wont look like the butt (messy coats) and wont be as much work since the handle fits into the liquidplastics' can, I'll just dip it in. I looked at the handle last night and have concluded that I can and will get that part done this week sometime.

Wow I'm a little lost... Is it fiberglassed? I know it's resined and you used some expanding foam... right?

It isnt glassed because I got too excited during the build and forgot about that part lol. But, Ive done everythign I ccould think of to make it durable. So it is:

Pep (67 lb cardstock), Resined (5 coats in most places), Expanding foam (I rushed into that without thinking about "gas out" and I ended up nearly destroying my rifle), Bondo (To fill in the really big craters made by the expanding foam. Now you wouldnt be able to tell there was ever a big messup ;) ), Mud, Sand *repeat last 2 steps numerous times*.

Now it's very sturdy, I know this because I accidentally swung it into a wall pretty hard, then in a panic, I dropped it to the floor. Luckly, there was no damage :cool:

Yeah, I think that about covers it :D

Oh ok, I was thinking about making a rifle but I would want to make it nice and hard and tough... :\...

I was thinking when making weapons you could resin it a lot on the outside and cut it in half and fiberglass the inside and then put it back together

Maybe use the expanding foam to fill in the gap and put it back together... but that's just my ideas for it but I won't know until I try...

Your rifle looks great and I'm sure it'll be amazing when done...
BTW I'm afraid of snakes.. ;)

LOL. I think the way your talkina bout was covered by another person that made a sniper rifle. He used a technique called endoglassing(?)... I'll see if I can find his thread for you.

.....Why are you afraid of snakes? My little Kaeda is the most ADORABLE and most precious snake ive ever had. How can you not fall in love with a face like hers? :D

EDIT: Endoglassing by SPARTAN-058

I like them, and they look like they could work. But, they arnt exactly like the in-game grips.... I think I'll stick to makin my own, but if that fails i'll look into these. Thanks Tenacious!

It's funny now, but that must have been a MAJOR Oh Shhh moment.. I think I'd have looked away with my eyes squeezed shut and had someone ELSE tell me what the damage was.. especially after everything you've gone through in this project.

I don't say much in here, but everytime I visit this thread, I get the "damn-I-wanna'-do-this-one" bug. Honestly? I don't think I'd do nearly as well as you have though.. interesting decisions in terms of the route you've taken with this thing.

Your efforts certainly show.. that's not just a sniper rifle, it stopped being "just that" awhile ago..

You have no idea. When I dropped it I stood there in shock for awhile before I had the guts to look at what I did... Good thing I went abit overboard with the Mud lol.

And yeah, this is my baby. Fo Sho :p

Thanks for the complement Mike! Oh and I'll be bringing it to Anime Supercon to get autographed by Steven Downes, you should come too :]

EDIT: My work schedule has changed and now I get Mondays off of work (HORRAY!) so all my weekly updates will be posted on Monday nights from now on! <-- Just incase anyone cared, lol.

When building the pep how did you deal with connecting the pieces that go together.... but dont have tabs to glue them together with? There are several pieces like this, like the stock section and the section that seperates the upper half from the lower half of the gun. It seems like there should be a tab in these places, especially since it would greatly improve the structure of the gun if there was glue there.
