Yeha I know it needs alot of sanding, I just got my paycheck and it looks like i'll be able to throw down only $100 on supplies to last me the next 2 weeks. sad face. I dont think I can affors a sander.... I'll just get the rest of the bondo on and do alittle bit-o-tinkerin... plus I need to manufacture the additional pieces... I was thinking about widdlin' wood.... I havnt made up my mind yet. Plus, my scope should be here soon ....

EDIT: heh, just looked up sanders and it looks like its in my budget (about $30-$40) so yay... so much to do so little time *sigh*

Okay, this is a kinda random wuestion but it does have somethign to do with my build.

What kind of glue/adhesive would work well with unsanded plain ol' bondo? I didnt really think about how I was gonna be puttin on the additions I'm building right now and Ive already got cured bondo over most of the body.

Halp!

Just use good old quick-set 2 part epoxy. It will actually give you better adhesion straight to unfinished Bondo than it would to a finished, painted surface. Just make sure that you have a relatively smooth surface (so that you aren't using the epoxy as an additional "filler", rather as it was intended, as an adhesive) and you should be good to go. Make sure that your Bondo is absolutely, completely cured first and you should be good to go...

Epoxy

Couldn’t you just use bondo to glue it? I haven’t tried it, but bondo sticks to pretty much anything right?..... I use a different brand of body filler, but it might still work.

I was just wondering about the rubber grip for the rifle and came across a thought that there might be rubber on the butt of the riffle too..... Does anyone know? I think my rifle at home has rubber on the end but I cant remember... is it standard to have rubber back there? and how far should the rubber go? Heres a pic of what i'm talkin about...

Is there gonna be rubber in these places?

I wouldn't say it's standard... some guns have it and some don't.
Usually depends on the 'NICENESS' or the weapon / gun manufacturer.
I'd say it's highly possible for this particular weapon to have it.
In the end this one will probably be a creative judgment call on your part.

I was just about to start building the hand guard (belly bar thingy) when I went home for lunch just an hour ago and while looking at the blue prints I noticed a big problem... The H2 model belly part is alot shorter than the H3 model.... its a big difference by at least 4-6 inches ... thats 4-6 inches that I need in order to make the H3 upgrade.... it doesnt really seem possible to do that now.... here is the only H2 SR Pic I coudl find (off on the wikia) VS. the H3 SR pic (i got it from the gallery here):

So, would my SR still be considered as "canon" if I was missing that part? This is an H2 SR btw....

Kelly sad.

You used foamcore for the stock, didn't you? You could use it again to lengthen the belly part.

most of the weapons i repair at work dont have rubber on them, there hard plastic or have wooden grips......so it more likely up to you if you want rubber on them

I'd say forget about that extra few inches, who gives a buck, that looks awesome.
I wouldn't worry about it so much - I mean you have a freakin sweet looking rifle.
Canon - yeah sure its in H2, Is anyone even gonna notice (if you don't point it out) - I would say probably not.

Thanks Lee. I'm just a perfectionist.... if I'm gonna build something I need it to be 110% and canon/legit.... I think I'll leave out the belly bar thingy... Ive already got all the other pieces made and ready to attach to the rifle. So I should have some pretty sweet pics by the end of the weekend :]

The only thing that I havnt done is the trigger.... Once my rifle's body is absolutely complete, THEN I will make a working trigger. Ive already got the blueprints on what I plan to do so all in all I think in the end I'll have the first legit, semi-workin, Halo Sniper Rifle (besides WETA), YAY!

quick question are you going to Dragon con this year? cause in your armor with the sniper rifle will look really cool there

I wont be makin it there this year because I dont have that kind of money to travel that far... oh and I dont have any armor at the moment :p . I WILL go next year though. By that time I hope to have a full suit and maybe a sweet aray of weapons :] (yeah right :cautious: ) I will be goin to Anime SuperCon in Weston, FL this year but without armor. I might bring my SR to get signed by (The) Master Chief and I'll be reppin the 405th with atire

Rubber on the Butt wouldn't give a stable, reliable and repeatable fire position, it compresses.

As for your colours, what's important is the textures and 'sheen'

Things can be black but look different shades because they have different surface textures or level of gloss. Think about what the parts of a real weapon would be made of, a slight contrast will give the impression of anobject made up from seperate parts and components.

Just speaking from my experience as a Vehicle and Mil modeller where the only thing you hsve to make a plastic molding look like a collection of parts bolted together is to make them slightly different in their finish.

I was talkin bout the kind of rubber that is actually used on real firearms lol. Theres a rifle shop right across the street here, I was gonna go look in and see what they have... otherwise i'll be makin a trip to Home Depot to see what theyve got avaliable... I know what kind of rubber I want lol. And I totally liek the rubber idea because I can make a sleeve out of it to slip onto the rifle parts adn just glue it in place, which means I dont have to spend alot of time sanding in those areas and trying to detail them lol. The rubber i'm lookin for can be easily modified via heat and knife So i'll get that "realistic" textural look that you see on any real rifle.....

My point about the rubber was that some rifles have a rubber 'pad' on the end of the Butt to act as a 'shock absorber' This is the last thing a Sniper would want as it's 'squishyness' would mean that the aim might be slightly off as the rubber could move. A rubber 'sleeve' is a different thing though, it would be more an 'anti slip' thing and would be an aid.

Mkay, I didn't get as far as I thought I would get by the end of this week, but I am happy to say that the SR as it is right now has exceeded my expectations. Thanks go to Sigma for giving me a couple Mud/Rondo mini-tips, I would have been well behind schedule if it wernt for his help :D . The pics dont look like much but, trust me, it took 16 hours (8 hours per day) this weekend to get it to the state it is now (my ankles are KILLING me lol):

^Here you can see that I added the "trigger guard" thingy, it's abit lopsided but I'll fix that later. Also the addition to the stock (I think thats what it is...). Excellent.

It's not perfectly symetrical just yet but its close. During this next week I'll be sketching on the details and doing spot sanding and puttying. Hopefully by next weekend I'll have the body/stock completely done, including the rubber skin parts and all details (fat chance).

Sooooo... whatcha think?????????
