1st Build Cosmo's First Build - Part Two / Finishing! - MkV(B)

I went to update to my original post and it told me it was too old?! I realized then that this project has been going on for almost TWO YEARS, which seems insane but I've really just been doing it when I had time between work and family. Especially in the beginning, I was learning more than I was "doing", so I think everything really started to ramp up after the halfway mark. (original post can be found here)

ANYWHO, I finally put the suit on for the first time and I wanted to post a photo and an update!

There are a few more things to finish up, a couple of buckles detached while I was suiting up so I'm currently reworking how I attach them (originally they were epoxied straight to the inside of the armor but I am going to instead use nylon strap and epoxy that, which has been much more solid in the places I've used strap without buckles), and I also haven't added the shoulders to the bicep pieces yet but this was just the proof of concept for how it looks.
The other thing I had yet to finish up was the securing of the chest rig-- the chest and back are held together with big neodymium magnets, but I wanted to add straps and elastic as a failsafe... well... about 30 seconds after this picture was taken the chest and back detached, proving my point and causing some pretty significant battle damage.

I definitely should've put the straps in first before trying it on! I have now managed to epoxy it back together, but I've yet to decide if I'm going to sand and respray to try to make it look normal again, or if I should work this into some kind of "battle damage". Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated haha

However, other than this repair I'm really feeling good about this suit! Once I have it (fully) wearable, I am going to start working on some of the optional goals I had set for myself-- lighting, undersuit bits to fill gaps-- until I am able to get out to a convention for some hangs.

Also, it's at this point that I guess I get to start looking into submitting this to someone and getting my number and such?! Crazy exciting!

Threads can be unlocked at the request of the creator of the thread:

They will just auto-lock after a year of inactivity to cut down on spam or "necro-posting."

That said, your original thread is not locked:

It just contains a warning that it it probably will be locked soon due to inactivity. As the creator for the thread it is never a problem to bump or post in your old thread, no matter how old it gets, even it it ends up auto-locking, see above. Really that warning is for other people to not unnecessarily bump or post in a thread that has gone a long time with inactivity as the member or build might not be active and they would be better suited looking for more current, active resources or builds.

I saw your armor on a Facebook group! Super cool man! I'm a huge fan of the blue you used!

Thanks for all this info, it's very helpful! Good to know about the thread. Now I'll know for my next build... although hopefully it won't take as long next time around haha!

Thank you!! I went with all Rustoleum paints this time around, the blue is Sapphire and while it looked WAY too bright at first, with the weathering it looks much closer to the original Reach colors so I was happy.

Oh right on! I will be sure to keep that color in mind. I may use it on a future kit. At the moment I'm rocking ODST but I do plan on making recon armor from halo 3 and would love a cool deep blue
