Wassup nerds!
We're 33 days out from Otafest, and since we had a
whirlwind opportunity to go to a last minute event in March I will never truly know if I could have finished my other planned costume for Otafest in time.
Honestly I could probably still whip most of it together but I'm just so over the idea of con crunch that even two years of time off wasn't enough to revitalize me on it (although this could be because my wig is still
on a ship from China). I have some other WIPs I could potentially finish off, as well as a couple of purchased costumes that never debuted.
So my number one goal for Otafest is to work on my Spartan Upgrades!
Last time on Dragon Ball we added Sanding to the To Do list because my shins had a rough texture and some strange reactions from the resin we coated them with when we rushed these mk II pieces for whichever outing (I honestly don't recall, but they have been worn a few times) Sanding the strange reactions did not go particularly well in a couple of spots:
But seeing as I do eventually want to remake the shins for a mk III (we shortened them significantly however this really emphasized their tube like nature, I'd like to bring back in the taper towards the ankle for a more flattering silhouette) I said heck it and did a 200 grit all over the particularly rough shin, then brought down the gloss with a sanding sponge on the other shin so we could get them purple.
For the particularly large patch where the resin peeled up, I thought it'd be fun to do a chunk of plasma damage-- although to be honest as horrific as the texture is up close, it really isn't that noticeable from 5ft/10ft so I'm not particularly concerned.
The weather was quite nice over the weekend so I got a bunch of things purple-ified.
And I was about to get started on sanding down the collar that
TurboCharizard whipped together for when we had a surprise run to visit family for Easter we hadn't planned on (it was lovely, reading webtoons, turkey, alcohol and sweaters. had a great time

)
I rejigged my ToDo list, shuffled some items down to the
Eventually category because I'm not interested in trying to do them before Otafest. I am trying to keep tackling my upgrades in a manner where everything I already have remains wearable.
(For instance I haven't added it to the ToDo list yet, but though I'm going to repaint the secondary colour on my existing thigh pieces I would also like to reprint some shorter ones for Otafest. Keeping the existing ones available as a back up in case anything goes wrong/I run out of time)
I re-added my ToDos around my Commando shoulder, and bopped CQC shoulder down to the eventually category as well. I don't particularly have a plan on how I'd like to do the CQC and it's not a puzzle I'm interested in playing with right now.
