Very cool, a friend of mine is planning on making the other one (the eva-ish thing) as his second year electrical engineering project, I hate to think how much work would go into programing the LEDs

great great job. You should wear your Mc suit under and suprise everyone when it switches from 80's night to 2552 night.

ive worn the master chief suit to 80s night before. people love it. i frequently wear all sorts of robot or mecha armor to 80s night. im actually pretty well known in new orleans as "the robot guy" or "raybot" (my name is ray) and also "optimus"

Hey thanks!

Here's a massive update on my progress!

I sanded off all of the fiberglass that didn't stick to the duct tape and re-masking taped it:

Here's the helmet re-fiberglassed with excess cut off,

And sanded edges smooth:

Suggestions on the front viewpoint/glass/LEDs? Radioshack was like 1-2 dollars an LED. Seems expensive~

Thanks for feedback all =D

just get an LED belt buckle. its programmable and will fit inside the visor. it wont go end to end, but itll work. then use any motorcycle visor to fill up the entire visor area.

This sounds great. I've found a bunch online, but I thinking of:

LED belt buckle (lol, silly gif)

But for the visor how do you think this will work to cut out from?:

I figure it will be dim enough to hide my eyes behind, plus the LED which will take up most of the view anyway :p

looks like itll work. i need to change my visor out for one like that, because everyone can see my eyes. i had to rush mine because i was on a 4 day deadline, and didnt have time to order a proper visor for it.

Cool but 2 questions: who is daft punk and how did you cheese grate that?

you cheese grate it when the bondo is still semi soft. if you wait until it cures, youll never grate it and will have to grind/sand it with power tools.

Daft Punk is an amazing Electronica band from Paris who started big in the 90's with One More Time, ALWAYS in the persona of robots. They are few pictures of them "in human form"; they're mind blowing live:

I'm jealous of anyone who say them live. ;P

Sounds good, I think it'll fit fine as long as the curvature works with it. I might have trouble with seeing past the LEDs since my visor is only about 3 inches total.

Wow. That looks really good, and smooth :D.
If you know how to work with LEDs and what not, I've been told to get LEDs at http://superbrightleds.com.
I've never actually bought from them, but they have cheaper LEDs, and I've heard good things about them.
White LEDs are $0.54 to $0.99. Red are $0.27 to $0.59.
