Yeah, I've been doing some research because I want to do an ODST suit, and I'm floored by just how different every version is. There's so many variations it's staggering.
Very much so. Especially getting deep into it like I did. Luckily there are plenty of resources here to help you if you decide to go the Landfall route.

Spartans had more net armour pieces, so either way is a lot of work. I like the landfall ODST though. It's a solid helljumper.

Right now I'm looking at either Halo 3: ODST style or Reach, thinking I might to a Reach design, the armor is a bit simpler, so I think it'll work out better as a first project.
If it's the Reach you are looking to do, Andrew DFT has a set of templates available. Can't remember if they are the free though.

They are, and it's what I plan to use. Though his templates do seem to be missing a few components, like that rectangular section that sits between the ODST chestplate and ab plate. No idea what that bit is even meant to be.

His files use a different ab section. Not sure if it of his own design or not. You could always blend the two.

His armor is very similar to the in game Reach version, I have the 3D model pulled up on my PC right now, as far as I can tell, the only pieces DFT's template is missing is the segment between the chest and ab, and external components like the flashlight on the helmet and the grenades on the belt.

The dft ab section is actually found on one of the marine permutations, I think. And the odst this ste actually REACH Spartan permutations.
yeah, I think what happened is that he ended up combining ODST and Trooper permutations, which is understandable, since the ODSTs in Reach used the standard marine armor, with ODST components attached on top. it's especially evidence once the pouches and such are attached, since they match up with a few troop variations.

First test fit. This is before all the final details were secured, like bullet bandolier and jetpack.

This looks awesome! did you Vac-From your own visor or did you buy sean bradleys dark blue mirrored? either way impressive suit.

So i didn't want to be a regular old ODST. There is a story behind everything on my build. In that same vein i decided to make a new primary weapon to carry for the DragonCon Parade. Ive always wanted a Brute Spiker and i thought it would be so cool for my ODST to haul around a Spiker as a trophy weapon. I had to design all my templates from scratch for this weapon. Hours of getting measurements correct. 1 day to DragonCon and this is the progress so far. Each combat blade is as long as my forearm. You really can see how big Brutes are with this thing at 1:1 scale. Thicc boys carry thicc toys
