Hi everyone,

I have been frequenting the forum for quite some time picking up hints and tips from:

Thorssoli's thread: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/7138-Thorssoli's-MkVI-Costume-Buildup

RoadWarrior's thread: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/21739-Fallout-3-Terminator-Wip.

You guys both rock!

I have now started my own Fallout 3 power armour helmet. After finding the right pep file (Non-squashed helmet), its together and its ready for resin. I will need to to add some support struts inside it to hold it in the right shape but its coming along well.

I have also started the Laser pistol as another cheap project while i wait for a time to resin. I think ill try painting it then clearcoating for a better finish. (Expanding foam is a good filler as long as you dont over spray it and making certain you leave openings for it to escape. Dont leave it alone or you will get a large wart lol)

And just some other papercraft things ive worked on over the years:

And i think ive posted this in the wrong area, but as the 'Pepakura and Cardboard Armor' section was saying i couldnt, this was the best option. Sorry :)

Quick update: Just finished the outer resin, waiting a day to do the inner. This side hasnt soaked up the resin as its pretty shiny.

The Laser Pistol looks cool, where'd you pick that up? And while it may be off topic, where also did you get the template for that f-14 above the AT-At?

Wear did you get this PEP for the T45d helmet? I have been everywhere looking for it.
Can you send me a copy?

I wish to do the entire suit. I have only 8 months to complete so I need to get on this ASAP.

Than you

Haha I am loving this so far. The power armour from Fallout was one of the things I lusted for in game until I finally got it. I hope you're going to build a full suit. :) Can't wait to see more!

A quick search on the site (Searching this site is a must as there is SOOOOO much content listed in so many stickies. I recommend trawling through it one weekend hehe) listed quite a few builds for fallout 3 armour and a reference page with pep and ref pics:

A quick update, trimmed and sanded the helmet opening, 'ears' and anywhere else there was fiberglass out of place. I also found some fitting that can be used for the pipe ends.

Im gonna have to test out some rondo on the outside at some point. Not having used it before its a bit of an unknown.

Cheers :)

Maybe. I went over all the white paper lines with a black pen so it looks neater. I have a small laser diode assembly that i will pop in the front of it which should give it a bit of realism :) Although thinking about it now i may put a coat of resin on it... We shall see.

Here is my long overdue update from a very productive Saturday:

My rondo test on the inside. Smooth :)

I gave it a bit of a sand and rough cut the eye holes out. The mouse sander is gold at this point.

A quick coat of primer to get a better idea of where to add bondo/sand.

And now after an epic sanding session i can see where it needs to be filled.

I also noticed a slight kink at the rear where i must have stuffed up the pep. I sanded the crap out of the back to fix it but then i noticed the front 'mask' is kinda uneven too. Ah well. I guess ill keep sanding till it comes good :)

To do list:
- Add the attachments/fittings to the mask and bondo them in.
- Trim and sand the eye holes.
- Work out if there is something i can use for a better 'front bit' lol. Ie more round and serviceable.

Cheers.

I figure while i wait for the weekend ill post some of my safety gear. Its an area that isnt seen/posted as often as it should. The dangers of resin are very high. I cannot stress this enough.

For resining i use a 3M silicon mask with an ABEK1 multi gas/organic vapor mask. Very highly rated and very comfortable. (Not for particulate/dust matter as there are no prefilters)
5198267622_d07b52e8f1_z.jpg

For sanding i use a cheapo combination mask (That is rated for dust and organic vapors as above) with prefilters and a bunny suit. There is nothing worse than washing fiberglass dust out of your hair. I also use a set of enclosed goggles.
5198267954_cc1a0f9d62_z.jpg

What you do not see here is the massive quantities of disposable glove that i use.
5197671135_c7e6fc64a0_z.jpg

If they get a bit of resin on them, i dump them. Mainly because if you get resin on somthing you are holding, it will get on places that you will touch with your bare hands. Without fail lol.

Maybe my filtration isn't exactly great...I'm just using one of those facemasks that don't have any of that fancy filter stuff. But the helmet looks awesome!

Thanks Reign! :) Im hoping to do some bondoing/trimming on the weekend and that it wont be too hot.

The easiest test is "Can you smell the fibreglass resin through the mask?" If yes then you need to replace the filters.

Rain...

I could only work on the bondo over the weekend (On this and the Pulse rifle) due to some heavy rain... :(

Not much of an update im afraid but im happy its slowly getting there.

Cheers.

On a differernt note ive saturated my good filters as i was working in an enclosed area without enough ventilation. Time to buy a higher rated filter.

Never fear, I am still working on this slowly. Although after a week of rain there were 2 4 hour blocks of sun i could work on bondo and sanding.

After a lot of sanding and perhaps too much bondo, the bucket is getting quite round :)
5235703313_a84314cf23_z.jpg

Bondo around the 'ears' and its now even.
5235704563_96009bb991_z.jpg

Im happy with how this is turning out so far. I will try and keep most of the other angular bits, but if anything gets rounded ill file them flat.

Cheers.
