After a very long time of working on other projects, and a VERY long planning stage, im finally ready to officially start on this!
Background/Explanation: So awhile ago, back at planet comicon '25, i was able to witness the glory of HoundsOfMeath 's amazing H2 inspired suit, which i think was finally the kick in the rear i needed to actually start working on my own, after finishing my landfall inspired suit. Around this same time, DRChefboyRD was working on his marine gear that was styled like Hicks from aliens, and thusly the last 2 surviving neurons in my brain (years of paint fumes will do that to you) sparked an idea, combine the smartgunner setup from aliens and the ODST from halo 2, a pretty simple one actually considering the amount of words to get here.
The plan: For the majority of the suit, im gonna be using These renders by AbiSV as reference, and while its not gonna be 100% exact, im still going to try and keep it pretty faithful to them besides one large exception, which is the helmet. Im primarily following the H2 Classic design because i think it'd mesh a lot better with the smartgun harness, whereas with the helmet its what i already had on hand and honestly i prefer it more
As mentioned before the whole bread and butter of this build is the smartgun and its harness. From my digging around in Alien cosplay areas, smartgun builds are costly and expensive and not cheap, which is why the planning stage of this took about 4 months. I've elected to use this RPF thread as guidance for the build. i could have printed the smartgun itself but after my relationship with my printer being on the rocks, and for stability concerns (I wanna throw this thing around! within reason!), im just gonna build it off the nerf gun like in the rpf thread. The harness is going to be based off a Flycam Comfort Arm & Vest, while not entirely accurate to ones Vasquez and Drake used in Aliens, theirs having 2 arm segments on the vest while mine only having 1, its really the only gimbal vest i can afford.
Where the build is at: I made sure to get the soft parts out of the way first since that's had a habit of biting in the butt in past years, though i may get a few more pouches for the sides if it still feels too empty at later stages. im using a pasgt vest as a stand in currently though it may remain i havent made up my mind yet. everything not black will be made black in the future, weather providing. The helmet still needs assembly, although the prints turned out really rough so a reprint may be required. As of right now im waiting for printer parts to arrive (always a good start to a project!) so i can start work on the smartgun. Im making sure to get all the important parts done first (helmet, chest, gun) so even if im late to a deadline, i still have something!
