Chapter One
2234 hours, September 22, 2785 (Military Calendar)/ UNSC Vessel Carrier of Spartacus, Near Sigma Octanus IV.
The Captain had never seen anything like it. Two giant Covenant Vessels were flying right into slipspace. It was an amazing yet scary site for the Captain of the Carrier, for he was amazed at the technology of the Covenant, but at the same time he was scared of it. The Captain knew that, if the Covenant would have saw his ship, the whole crew of 50 UNSC personnel, 27 ODSTs, and 20 SPARTAN supersoldiers would have been gone forever.
"Williams, any report on the status of the Covenant's location?" the Captain asked sternly.
"No sir," Private Williams replied, "but it appears as if they either retreated or didn't see us."
The Captain pondered for a second, "We are only one small ship, they were two giant ships," the Captain was confused, "I'm going to rule out fleeing for now, but still, we should have been in plain view."
"Maybe they were damaged?" Williams said.
"Possibly," the Captain replied, "still, they could have taken us out either way."
"Sir," a short, gruff man, wearing the standard issue UNSC personnel attire, called out to the Captain.
"What is it, Johnson?" the Captain replied.
"We have the SPARTANs playing a little Capture the Flag in the training base, all in their Mark VII armor."
"That's good, they need to get used to those suits, they are a lot different than the Mark VI they have been using for awhile now," the Captain said, "what guns are they using today?"
"We have them using the standard MA5C Assault Rifle, plus, they are testing out a new semi-automatic machine gun model as well as a smaller, more compact sniper rifle, all of which are using low grade stun rounds."
"Good," the captain smiled, "they may be ready sooner than we expected."
