Halo reach DMR -galactic armory

I am going to be making a Halo reach DMR for my MKVB cosplay, and I will try my best to update this as I go along.

At the moment I am printing all the parts out, I want this gun to be lightweight so I can easily carry it around at a convention, so I have changed the settings so that parts are all 3 walls and 5% infill, the whole gun should weigh around 1.1KG possible a couple extra 100 grams of filler and paint.I have around 5 weeks until the convention and I still need to finish the shins,boots and forearms, I have made a sniper, which is to big (over the size restrictions) and a commando rifle, which is to heavy as I printed I most of it out of resin and weighs around 3.4KG.

I have got all the parts printed out and done a dry fit, and it is looking good so far.

If you're printing with PETG, the weight isn't going to really be an issue. You can use other filaments, but I find PETG is durable and won't melt as easily in the heat or if left in your car. A weapon that size shouldn't be a problem and a sling will let you be hands free if you need to. It looks great!

With all the parts printed out I have gotten them sanded down.
To start I go from 80-600 Grit (probably overkill) to remove as many of the later lines as possible now, on the plain flat surfaces.

Then I give it a coat of 3D printing resin and cure it will a UV lamp, I will sand that down with 240,400 and 600 grit then adding Red acrylic glaze putty (bondo) on any areas that need more work and sand that down before adding the filler primer.

The filler primer will get hand sanded down with wet and dry sanding sponges (240 Grit ) and go over the whole thing, because I did most of the sanding at the first two stages this is just to help get it all smooth, I don't worry too much with things not being perfect as I am on a bit of a crunch and I like to weather my things, so It will be hidden with black paint probably.

I then assemble the parts together with the top half and the bottom half with two part gorilla epoxy glue. I also printed out some 1.6mm dowels to go in the holes, as I don't want any extra weight if I used some brass road, but this was to help align the pieces rather than structural integrity.​

After the glue on these had fully hardened, I then glues the two pieces together.

I'm afraid I didn't get much photos of the painting process, but it's all finished, I did forget I hadn't updated this, sorry haha.

This is the colours blocked in, I don't like to use masking tape because I'm lazy but the black I can airbrush on so it doesn't matter to much with this one., haha but I like to box in the colours then then I go back with the black with my airbrush to get the lines a bit neater.

This is after the colours have been painted on, then I have applied a black acrylic wash, which is watered down black acrylic paint, I will let this dry before going back with a cloth and removing most of the wash, using some water in a spray bottle and a cloth to remove most of the wash from they gray as I didnt want it to be to dark.

(I have changed my washing method from this as it would leave a white residue when dried)

This is what it looks like after the wash has been cleaned up and I have gone back over the black. then some silver, and darkened the silver parts so they don't stand out to much.

I made this for my cosplay, but it fits great when your not wearing armour but once I had my armour on I can't get the stock up to my shoulder because of the armour piece, so I made a new commando rifle instead as I love the look of that gun. but I did get some photos of this one with my cosplay.
