Steady progress continues ...
- Finished sewing the elbow ribbing using the smaller 5mm diameter cord. I can now bend my arm easily all the way to the front of my helmet
Next up is figuring our a way to sew it to the long sleeve Lyra shirt so that it's all just one piece like with my vest to minimize the number of costume pieces ...
- I finished adding Velcro to both the back of the front foam ab undersuit plate and rear plate
- also finished the rear undersuit back back. I sprayed the foam with black plastidip and 3D printed the spine plates, painted them black and added Velcro to them. I don't plan on removing them from the back plate but I liked this attachment method
To attach the COD pieces together and give it a little bit of flex to make it easier to twist and bend in it I used 2 pieces of 5mm Eva foam on the inside and outside to hold the connectors to the butt plate
Then I glued the hip boxes over the top of each
My cunning plan to attach the front COD is to use magnets which will allow me to step into and slip on the main assembled COD and then once it's pulled up around my hips to attach the front piece. For added support I may also add an internal belt that I can cinch up to hold it more comfortably in place .. We'll see
- although it took the better part of 2 full days fighting .... I mean working with Meshmixer and Blender I finally have perfectly fitted thigh armor...
For anyone getting ready to use the GA files the overall length of the base file was 17". I had to scale mine down to 13.5" to fit correctly. The avatar they used was supposed 6', 200 lbs and I'm 6' 195 but it was way to big at least for me ... YMMV.
Because of all the fits and starts I didn't trust my final sculpted piece so I decided to split it into 2 pieces (even though I could have printed it as one on my XL ) to ensure the first piece fit and not waste a bunch of filament if it turned out not be be correct ...
Since it was good I then jus5 mirrored the piece and printed out the R thigh in a single go ... 22 hrs.
So this just leaves the chest armor which I actually sculpted and fitted to my 3D avatar a while back and was able to successfully take the fully assembled and sculpted piece from Blender and it export back to meshmixer and separate all the pieces for printing.
What I haven't done yet is check that all the pieces import into my slicer at the right scale. This is where I ran into major issues with the thigh piece which took me forever to unravel.
So depending on what happens I may be printing the chest within a day or so or end up back fighting with Blender again ...
In either case, once complete then all that remains before final painting is to figure out the attachment system for some of the armor pieces ...
