So I'm in the middle of pepping my iron man helmet and I want to add a mohawk like piece to the top of the helm but I'm wondering if I have to customize the pieces that made up the top of the head or is it easier to build it separately and attach it

I'd post pics to better explain what I mean but my computer is messed up and I'm on my iPod lol

If it were me, I would probably do this in the bondo stage as it would be as simple as slathering on a layer in a taped off area.

It depends, if you want a Mr T mohawk I agree with neoproks, if you really wanted to shape it up you could build a paper model of it on top of the helmet and then bondo that.

If you wanted to do like a line of spikes on the helmet you could build pyramids out of cardstock and smooth em out with bondo.

I wanted like a tall mr. T like Mohawk. So I should just build it separately out of cardstock, Fiberglass the inside and then attach it and smooth it with bondo?

I'd try to find a really light material to make it more comfortable to wear. Flexibility also won't hurt, because you'll be taller than usual and you might accidentally get caught in stuff (doors, trees, ...).

Oh it won't be that tall it's only going to be 2 or 3 inches high lol

Oh. Well then... I was imagining it more like this:
