How Do I Join a Game Night?
First you'll have to find one. Click through the available game nights in the sticky thread and find one that works for you. Be sure to look for prerequisites, as some game nights are only for serious gamerz, or perhaps only type B forum members. Also, look for a "To join, contact..." line near the top of the page in the first post.
On Xbox Live - If the contact is an xbox live GamerTag then you'll need to be on Xbox Live during the normal meeting time posted for the group. Then send a message on Xbox Live to that gamertag saying "invite?" or "inv please?". Please don't spam this message. They may be in the middle of a game and can not invite you. If you don't get a response in 5 minutes you can try again. If it is past 30 minutes from the start of the game night, the host may have left due to lack of participants.
On the forum - This means that the group has prerequisites to join. So you will need to send a private message on the 405th forum to join or you can post in their thread. From there, the host will give you their gamertag and you will follow the same instructions as above for On Xbox Live.
On Discord - Discord is a 3rd party application/website that people use to communicate while gaming. It supports both voice and text. Some hosts prefer to use this to communicate rather than the forum. If this is the case, they will provide the way to get in touch with them in the description of their game night.
Cross Platform - Xbox 360 and Xbox One
Some games that were released on the 360 are backwards compatible with the Xbox One. It is possible to join a 360 game and party from your Xbox One, but it is a little tricky.
1. You must exit any party chat on your Xbox One console before joining a 360 game, even if you are the only person in the party. Double check your party chat status before launching the 360 game.
2. After you insert the 360 game you will see the old Xbox logo animation. Now to change any settings or invite any friends you have to use the Xbox 360 dashboard, not the Xbox One dashboard.
3. To get to the 360 dashboard press the "back" and "start" button at the same time once. From here you can invite people to your party or your game, send messages, change your chat audio settings, etc.
4. If someone sends you an invite from the 360 you can only accept it through the 360 dashboard. When the text prompt appears at the bottom of the screen from a message or invite, press the back and start button to open it.
5. If you press the Xbox One button, you will be taken out of the game until you press the Xbox One button again. When you are out of the game no one will be able to hear you in your 360 party and they will not be able to hear you.
