"MjolnirArmor.com does not SELL ARMOR!" - as far as i know that includes the 405th. But the store idea for hats and shirts may be a good idea. (in fact, i think i remember spase or Adam mentioning it at some point, buy i may be wrong)
If someone has something for sale, the most convenient place for them to put it and for others to find it is the classifieds. If people start selling stuff in there profile, it will become disorganized, new people wont know were to go or who to see if we start telling them to look at peoples profiles to buy stuff.

technically its not the site selling the pieces, thats like saying ebay sells loads of stuff. when it doesnt, all it does is hosts things being sold.

we all know that some mods and staff sell armor, like spase, but just because they sell armor, doesnt necasserily mean the SITE is selling the armor, its just that particular member using the site as a host to help sell ther armor, a shop would be a good idea, but something like ebay, when members put it up themselves...

There cant be a "405th Store" when there isnt even an official 405th. Wait for the charter to be done and then you can suggest seomthing like this.

The classified ads are good enough for now.

Are you saying that this site doesn't actually exsits right now and I'm not a
member because there isn't some list in cyber exsistance that says I'm registered?

For the effort that's been put into this site, and for as many frequent members over the globe
post their information on a daily basis, I feel this site is official enough for me. :)

As for the store, I don't mean selling armor. I mean the site has accessories for sale at set prices.
Like a shirt is $20 and maybe customised for extra $ at a person's descretion.
Now if Adam or Spase work out to have a place where they want to sell kits, fine. But that's
for a later time when this site is more, "official" perhaps.

Selling individually, however, is much different.
I forgot the guy's name on here but he sells LED counters for BRs.
He has those pretty much made 24/7 doesn't he?
So instead of having to post a new classified every other day* ( potential banhammer there) to be on the front page,
why not have a place on his profile for him to offer his products.
Link sells weapons, he can do the same. Spase with armor, Legendary with hats and shirts, ect. . .

*(not saying he does or anything << >>)

But as it stands on it's own: It's mearly a suggestion, nothing more. :D

I'd love it if new members were required to view specific threads before they could join the general populace on the forum. Kind of a 'click here if you have read and agree" thing.

We could guide new members through the basic things they need to knwo before they even show up in the forums. That way we wouldn't have to be answering the same 10 questions over and over again.

I am a member on the TI boards (Team-integra) and boy is it strict on that site! I can post but I have to wait till a MOD reviews my post and then accepts it. I had some instances where I posted something that was already posted and a MOD showed me the link. But I still couldn't post so mainly I was only there a visitor even though I already registered on the site! Just so you know...I am still a member on there but can't post regualar until all my posts gets approved. The best part is that I can't even start a "Thread" in there so that is how my n00b status is, and I have been on the site for 16 months

But if any of you wanted to see how they run things...try and register on there site and post...you gotta read all these rules and regulations (trust me its alot of pictures and directions) kinda discouraging but I needed some Type R side skirts so I did it and sheesh its tiring! Here is a link and hopefully some ideas can be used from that...hopefully it cracks down on all of the "same question threads" that I as well been popping up!

Okay, so the methods on the TI boards you mentioned are probably a little too strict for here. That establishes an upper bound. I think the rule system just put in place is a great step towards improving the forums. Next would probably be requiring mod approval for a member's first few posts, but I think the moderating cadre' is already pretty busy, so that's probably not an option at this point. I think that people will eventually get the hint as their warning level goes up and bans start happening. I still don't hold much hope for noobs to read the rules. People seem to ignore stuff that is right in front of their face. I have a feeling that we'll be fighting the noob posting thing for a long time.

I think a question bot would be a good solution to new members questions
http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php?f=788
You can create a new section and let new members post their questions and the bot will automatically answer as I have seen on other forums

I also found this cool mod.
It prevents certain groups from posting in dead topics
http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/7965

Alot of people were also talking about a way to make new members read topics
http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/7678

Well, now we know that such tools do exist, and knowing the interwebz, there are probably better forms out there.

I would think there is a way to make new members to go through a process in which shows how things are run before they be able to post or chat with other members just like a game. Maybe have them sent to 1 thread which explains each section and have the top ten Faq or something. Even though the noob forum has it sticky to the top but most of them won't read it.

The bot idea seems neat have a zombie thread come back to life with no new topic to be add on is just a waste.

I would say we need to do like a clean up in the forums for example the classified section there is at least 28 pages of stuff no longer relevant and keeps eating up bandwidth correct me if I'm wrong.

This would be cool but not really needed if we had part of the Halo theme play when were in the portal.

Sorry to go a wee bit off topic but I believe BlackRose has the right idea. It has been stated in eariler threads, specifically by Deadguy (I think) that there are no members of the 405th as of yet. Yes we are members of the 405th forums but not of the, as yet unmade, 405th site.
Ie-501st have forum members but these members also enlist to s overall 501st site or hub. That's how I see it anyhoo.
I reckon a 405th store would be a good idea, for t-shirts, caps and whatnot but it should only appear on a 405th site not the forums.

Thanks Red, That was EXACTLY what I meant lol. So until the chrater is done there is no official 405th, and therefore we cannot open a store to sell official 405th stuff in bulk, I believe. A few T-Shirts or Hats here and there in the classified section is all I think can be done for the time being.

In that line of thought...

I was thinking today something like this might work.....

A user signs up for an account. They validate and on the first time they log in, they are greeted with something like the following (this is something I threw together in 2 seconds XD):

--------------------PAGE 1------------------------------
Welcome (New User) to the 405th Forums.

Before you begin browsing the forums, we'd like to take a moment to show you how our boards work.

This guide is short and sweet and covers nearly all beginner's questions.

We highly encourage you to read through the info carefully so that you can hop right in and have a good experience!

[ x ] I understand.

[ Proceed ]
---------------------------------------------------------

--------------------PAGE 2------------------------------
As a new user, you will be able to....[explain about thread creation and all that jazz]
...
and so on....
...

...

[ x ] I understand.

[ Proceed ]

---------------------------------------------------------

This little "Wizard" would require them to click 'I understand' on each page. It's kind of like a software EULA except it's short and to the point.

Sure, they could still technically choose to be a contrary sod and just select "I agree" without actually reading each word, but I think if it is easy to read and has pictures, a good amount of people would retain the info.

Might be an ok way to improve the status quo (aka 'noobus quo').

I'll have to refine this idea some more later...

Interesting. . . if the rules are broken perhaps the penalty board would mount faster for
neglegent users and send them back to these pages like a slap on the wrist. Mess up again,
dare I say go as far as a Hammer of Band, creating a kind of natural selection for the forums. Maybe.

And we could write like in the middle of the page : If you agree with this, uncheck the little box before clicking Accept.

So we can know if they read or not :D

You can have a quick 5 question quiz on the last page to see if they at least skimmed through the info:

1) Where are the Stickies located?
2) What is the basic Safety Gear?
3) What happens when you Necro-post
4) Who should you go to for a question?
5) Honor. Armor. _____.

or somethin along the lines of that. Quick and easy and basic knowledge.

now that, is actually a very good idea. just say in the paragraph "If you agree to all this continue the page without checking the box that asks you to check it if you agree..."

wow, LS that is an awesome idea.
