Work on the lights continues. However, I tried something that came out super cool!

Acetone image transfer.

Here is a helpful YouTube video by SteelSpartan

As this is an image transfer, you have to make sure that your image is reversed (I had the Canadian Regiment and Spartan Branch images saved in my templates folder and just used an online imaging site to make a mirror image)

I found that after I wet the paper with acetone I needed to let it sit for a about 10-20 seconds for the image to transfer. The nice thing was that not all of the ink transferred so it made it look old.

I think it turned out great and will be using it to put the same images on the back of my chest piece and my username on the front of the chest.

Note: I tried both a laser printed image and a photocopied one and only the laser print would transfer.

DAMN

Those are some clean looking transfers. I am jealous of that Canadian Regiment badge. SOON

That's awesome! I'm definitely checking this out when I get to that stage in my build!

Thanks!

Dang, thanks for that. That's one of the issues I've been stuck on. All the markings on my suit I had planned on hand painting, then going through the weathering process, but this might be a nice solution for some logos and such, then deal with only having to weather some of the other markings.

This was exactly my dilemma. I wanted a solution that would give a nice clean image (better than I could do by hand) without using a plastic transfer. The bonus was that it already looks weathered.

Fit test #2

The main build is now done with lights installed. I did this fit test at midnight, so sadly no full body photos.

First of all everything feels great. Two issues have come up though.

I thought that Velcro attached to my snowboard padded shorts would keep the thighs up. There is no issue with the thighs staying attached to the shorts, but the shorts don't have a drawstring and they slide down a bit which causes the thigh to be too low.

I also have a saggy Spartan diaper. You can see in the photos that there is a big space between the chest plate and the cod piece. This makes the chest look too small. So I need to get the cod piece to sit higher.

I was hoping to be able to do this build with just Velcro hidden inside the armour but think I have to run a strap down from the motocross armour to the thigh. I will attach Velcro to the strap which will allow the cod piece and thigh to sit higher. It will also have the added benefit of keeping the motocross armour pulled down.

I also thought that I was brilliant in having the button switches for the lights in easily accessible places so that I could turn them on and off on my own. I forgot about the limited range of motion when the suit is on! I can turn them all on but have to remove my forearms to do so (the forearm/shoulder combo doesn't allow me to bend my arm enough to get to all the switches).

Fix the strap issue and acetone transfer the UNSC logo and my username to the left- side chest piece and I am done.

Looks great man! Nice to see it finally here!

Thanks, I feel exactly the same!

I should be able to get the final issues solved this week and get some full body photos this weekend.

I say again, awesome job! The lights are a real added bonus! How long can you keep them turned on before the battery dies?

Thanks!

I have no idea how long the lights will last.

I did some VERY basic calculation and the batteries should last about 40 hrs

Small update

I did the UNSC/Username acetone transfer.

I think it came out awesome.

I tried to put the 405th logo on the right side but the print wasn't dark enough so it wouldn't transfer properly.

That transfer looks awesome, It has a nice worn out weathered look to it, I love when decals come out like that! Looks amazing bro!!!

Thanks!

I am really happy with how it came out. I was worried with what I would do if it came out sharp and glistening but luckily it goes perfectly with my weathering.

A couple of minor fixes but I can now say that the armour is finished!

Before I get to the photos I really have to thank some people. Everyone here has been really amazing throughout this adventure but several people have really gone above and beyond for me.

Dirtdives - thank you so much for the great conversations and humour. Whenever I was feeling overwhelmed you put a smile on my face.

Kaween - man it can be really hard to tell someone that they have just plain done something wrong. You have been the voice of reason and pushed me to make the armour that much better. Thanks you.

Commander Palmer - ma'am you really are an inspiration to all of us. Thanks for the winks.

Chiefwannabe and Mesh. Always there with an "attaboy". Thank you.

I know that there are more people and I really don't want to leave anyone out so I will just say a big thank you to everyone who has followed with me.

Here it is. I didn't get the cod piece up high enough and the Velcro on one of the shins needs to be re-glued.

Thanks! I will definitely see you at Fan Expo! My daughters just asked me yesterday if we can go and they wear their new costumes (Rey and Jyn Erso).

Fantastic work mate! you've really outdone yourself!

Thanks man. I am pretty darn pleased with myself.
