I agree there are other tools... free tools. No dispute there.
I did my first Spartan with Windows 3d Builder. Planned the colors out in Photoshop.
scheme I was going for:
A couple things killed me with that plan
1 - It was the very old version of the MK-VIgen3 and they were not good files. G.A. as since totally remastered that suit and provided free updates to all previous buyers - So great customer support there.
2 - Even though I had a good body avatar in 3d builder it doesn't articulate and I didn't see collisions for things like sittings, kneeling, walking stairs, posing.
3 - lack of free-form deformation makes it impossible to get anything more customized than simplistic XYZ scaling.
Can 3d builder be helpful? Sure. And its free. But...
> Plenty of people have armoursmith but still can’t scale properly.
I'm not sure that's an issue with Armorsmith so much as inexperience at all the skills: Scaling software, building and experience in WEARING to know what you'd do differently the next time.
I know it was in my case for my first Spartan. Which is why I now suggest starting with less tolerance-demanding armors so people can build up scaling expertise on a Mando, Aliens Colonial Marine, ODST then a Spartan.
At the very least, if there was one bit of advice I could give someone on their first Spartan: Give more joint room than you think. There's a desire to cover every square mm of your body in armor because that feels tactically right - but then you can bend anywhere.
