Thanks, guys.

@SKG, Thanks for all the work you and your team put into this gear, the pieces that I've gotten to put together so far have gone together really nicely.

@Confucious, Sounds great on your forearm, and remember that the scaling for the torso is tricky. You might have to modify the neck to get your head through, even if the height is correct.

Here's a little drawing to show how I scaled this.

Aye, I did the math for the torso. I'm just gonna check how off it is first, then do some adjustments. Did you also use the formula too?

Loooooooooking sweeeeet, great work :D keep up with the pictures P.s. Looks really really good

I used RalPartha's default scale for the torso, and I had to cut a little bit out of the narrowest part of the back to shorten it, because it was the right width. Theres some pics to show what I did a page or two back.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. Weekend's here, I can finally do some real work on this stuff  Hooray for resin!

And resin did happen this weekend.

Torso, with temporary cardboard supports hotglued in.

Resined and hanging to cure.

A side project that I've been slowly working on. (4 months ;) ) Now that it's resined, this is going to be sidelined while I work on the ODST gear. Flying_Squirl's MK VI unfolded by Bevbor.

Well, after a week at Lillies war, and a week of work taking up all my armoring time, I've got a little progress on the helm.

The visor is fitted, today I'm going to fit the mounting hardware.
odst-075thumb.jpg

I used epoxy putty to build up the edge of the visor slot so that it looks like it's sealed to the visor, and to give me me a flat place to glue in the chicago screws.

This is what I did on my summer vacation,

I learned bronze-age metal casting techniques. Among other things.

Loess, that bronze medal is epic, you should see with the original artist if you could make some and sell em. I would definitely buy one.

Hey Loess, I'd really appreciate it if you could pick up a bunch of chicago screws because my Lowe's/Home Depot are out....all the 501st guys in our area stole em :p

If you could pick em up, I'll pm you my address, and I'll pay for the cost of it, plus shipping.

If you don't mind.....

- Darke

PS: I love what you've done with the helmet. I might come to you for some help if you don't mind.

ok i dont know if this is still going on but what size should i make my helmet im only about 5ft

Measure your head from the top to the chin. Then add a inch or two for space. Thats what I did, and it fits.

Thanks for the compliment, but that's a decision for Adam and the 405th brand manager, although I would love to make more when my modern foundry equipment is ready.

Sure, the Menard's I go to in Sioux City has lots, no 501st that I know of around here, and I haven't scouted Lowe's or HDepot yet. I located screws from 3/16" to 2" long around #6 or #8 size. What I actually used are #6-32 tee-nuts and a pack of #6-32 x 0.5" machine screws, since it was a little cheaper, and the tee-nut had a larger gluing surface than the chicago screw back.

Confucious' method sounds good, I used NZ-TK's original model, and I'm not sure how the scale compares to the version that's out now.

 The visor is finally in for real for the first time!

I still need to re-prime, wet-sand, paint, and pad this; but I can see the glorious light at the end of a 6 month long tunnel.

Here's a closer shot of how the mounts are epoxied in:

And a shot of one of the tee-nuts that I used:

So glad to be nearly done, now I can look at the rest of my ODST gear, and eventually some other projects.

That looks really good Loess, with a bit of work on the inside, it could make for a really nice helmet.

Definetly loving your mounting visor method, should make life so much easier.

I am worried that your helmet is a little thin in areas, looking at the inside near the mounts...It looks like it might need some support so that it doesn't crack in the long run...

- Darke

PM me if your up for the chicago screw stuff as I was serious about needing some...

Peace

There's two layers around the visor and neck openings and some random spots elsewhere in the helm, but yeah, the fiberglass is kinda thin in a lot of spots. I've kinda been thinking of going back and adding a layer or three of extra glass.
