According to the Halo Wiki about the MA5C in accordance to it's counterpart, the MA5B:



"Magazine size has been reduced, but the rifle has become more accurate, more powerful, and easier to control."



AND.



According to Halopedia the MA5B has a "low" damage per hit, as opposed to the MA5C which has a "medium" damage per hit.



Also according to Halopedia:

Now you can disregard most of this thread as opinion...but there are the facts right there.

id like to see the writen work from bungie stating that the ma5c has more damage per shot. and no "another member mentioned" stuff.

Well Opinion is one thing, but the statistics speak for itself, the MA5C is clearly the better weapon, statistic wise.



The only thing I would give to the MA5B is the color scheme has more stealth, but other than that...



And why add the MA5K and the MA37 in the poll, there is no way we can tell which one is the best because the MA5K is a novel only weapon. (Except for Halo Custom Edition mods, but that doesn't count, because it's not an official Bungie map. )



And the MA37 has only been tested out by the official Reach Alpha/Beta testers, unless someone on here is one of the lucky people who get to test Reach early, then we won't know until May 3rd/ Bungie official states how powerful it is.

(I do remember hearing somewhere on Bungie that it's just as powerful as the MA5B, but don't take my word for it.)

Disadvantages

The MA5B is not without its disadvantages though, its main disadvantage being its horrible accuracy when fired at a range of more than forty meters. At that range, enemy infantry may be hit by a few bullets, or not be hit by any bullets at all. The MA5B Assault Rifle performs poorly against energy shields unless firing on full automatic at close range without giving a shielded infantry time to cover. In comparison to modern assault rifles it can be more related to an over-sized sub-machine gun, as it is seriously underpowered and lacks the ability to select a fire mode.

MAybe the enemies of CE were less resistant to the AR? I havn't played 3, and it's been a while since I beat CE. I remembered it being rather powerful. adn the scatter problem really doesn't affect you, since normally you can take 'em with the pistol, or you're up-close so it can work. That may be why the b version seemed more powerful.

The B is definitely nastier sounding than the C. However, I definitely remember the B being pitiful against Grunts (where it could take half a mag to kill just one).

well lets see, multiple people changed their votes, and others convinced people to vote their way i think to personally get that one higher. im going to go with the LAST readings witch i thought were more fair. btw i like the ma5b, and i believe that there is no way to determine witch gun is more powerful due to many issues like "different games with different damage" witch is true because elites were harder o kill in halo CE and easier in halo 2.



i believe it is a TIE! no matter the poll (witch i personaly think a certain person tried rigging) due to what i herd, they are both good and tie because of different weaknesses and strength. if a mod wouldplease close?

or maybe you just have bad aim? please take in PERSONAL faults before voting. as for me I have certain strtegys that worked better with the B and dont work anymore with the C making me like the B more

I prefer the MA5C in ODST. I dunno if its just me, but the retort seems alot more guttural than in Halo 3.
