was doing some construction work last week and I found a neat off cut and it’s now gonna be an assault rifle. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

jig saw to cut off most of the unused stuff, a small hand router would make good of the rest of your lines and getting really nice rounded edges. for the trigger area i would either go fine toothed jig saw and like 3 predrilled holes or a router if you really trust your self.

depending on how thick the wood is a small router bit may not be long enough.

i can see the spare materials between the trigger guard and the stock being used to finish building out the bottom of your trigger guard or the tip of your rifle.

make sure you sand it real well after all that so you don't get splinters.

I second the use of a Jig saw over a router, routers require a much more practiced hand especially if you don't know how hard the wood is. for sanding if you use and electric sander start softly as it is always easier to remove more with another pass than to have to use putty and filler if you take to much. Take your time and enjoy the medium that is wood!

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have a good estimate for the thickness of the main body of the rifle? I’m looking to make the forward grip and front housing separate parts for ease of shaping but I’m unsure of the width of the parts.
