I am looking to find a mannequin to display my armor, and I am having trouble finding one relatively cheap, but with the specs I want.

Male
Not posing
removable arms/legs
full body
Any strong material.

I want it to look nice, so the duct tape route won't work. I also plan on getting one for each suit I make, but for now I only need one. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

my fiance is doing a project like this i am helping her... if i have any info or a tutorial i will be sure to send it your way.

This is the one I got
http://cgi.ebay.com/No-Face-Gloss-W...158?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230c7a497e
Except mine is black. I haven't finished it yet though. I'm gonna make the feet detachable so I can get my shin pieces on it

A couple things you will need to know about that Mannequin:
1. It will be hard to get the shins over the feet
2. The standing brace goes into the back of the calf so you will have to have a shin with a hole in the back or find a new way to make it stand.
3. The hands are a pain in the butt put gloves on
4. The hands do not come off which makes it hard to put gauntlets on

Keep those factors in mind when looking for one.

Ithica

The overall look of that one is great, only I would paint it black.

Ithica, I will keep those things in mind. If I need to cut some of the parts to get it to work better, then I will.

That one ia a little pricey, is there anything else that is less expensive.

all the decent ones i have seen are a few hundred bucks, but i'm sure all the bargain hunters out there will find one for less :p.

i asked my art teacher where i could get one myself, and she said visit a website called (i think) the mannequien warehouse. i will google it now to make sure it exists......... nup, i have found no EXACT places called the mannequien warehouse, but i think it's called something along the lines of that :) anyway, even if i didn't find the shop, when i googled mannequien warehouse, there were ALOT of mannequien shops so maybe if you keep looking you will find one near you.

anyway, goodluck on your endeavours

Is there a reason you couldn't use a duct tape mannequin? If it's done right, you can build it to the exact specs you want. Just keep the body suit or black BDU's on there and no one would know the difference between it and a 'real' mannequin. Or maybe just get a set of cheap underarmor (the Starter stuff from Walmart) and keep it on, with black fabric sewn into the neck so you can't see down into the duct tape.

yeah, i liked that one cause its about the same size as me but just a little taller and it didnt have some stupid pose or facial features. I got everything on it no problem, just need to modify the feed to be able to come off so i can get my shins on it. It has a hole for the stand in the bottom of one of the feet so I was planning on using that to stand it up and poking a hole in the bottom of an old boot to allow the stand to be inserted. I like it overall, its just a little pricey.

ok to make a cheap Mannequin you will need duct tape and polly fill both found at wal-mart, have someone wrap you in duct tape and then cut it off once cut off piece it bak togeather using strips of duct tape once done you will need to fill it with poly fill and then you have a cheap home made Mannequin just check out this video its not mine but gives you an idea

He stated in the original post that he does not want to make a duct tape mannequin.

Justinian, will it just be for display purposes? Keep us updated if you find one you like, as I'm pretty interested in one myself :)

I know you said you didn't want a ductape mannequin but here's a look at how mine came out.
This was when the suit wasn't completed.
You can create a skeleton for it out of PVC pipes :)

I might try the duct tape, but I was looking for something a little more professional. I plan on having a few suits linned up on a wall, and if I didn't have to make a body for each one it would be nice. I will continue to look into different possibilities.
