The Files are great and easy, but....how are the Ear and Neck Part are mounted on the Head????

I have the Crown and Face together, but no Plan how to mount the Ear Part....i see there no Way, pls help!
It's a little trick to do, what I did was open up the obj file of the complete suit and use that as a reference for fitting the neck and ears. I used some squares of corrugated card as spacers for the main ear piece... I'll take some pics of mine tomorrow and post them, they might help :)

@ smilie: Those are looking good Smilie! I'll be waiting to see some resined/bondoed pics ;)

I imported all the PDO's into the designer, and they all line up. So I suppose that would mean they would be all scaled the same, right?

-FireDrakeArchon
You know, I never knew you could import other pdo's into the designer... I'll have to try that. Anyway... I used the same scale number for all the files so they should be the same scale, wether that fits a regular human body is yet to be seen, you may need to resize pieces to get them to look right on you.

@ Yodajammies: I kind of like the look of this one too :) and at least the helmet is fairly simple so if you wanted to make it shorter you can easily cut a section out and join the halves up again without much trouble :D

This goes out to anyone working on these files, be sure to post some pics of your IM armor on the LoH forum (link in the first post) when you're finished, I'm sure they'd like to see what others have done with the files... and don't forget to thank callmemilo for the files :)

I've done the helmet and chest piece so far. (appears to fit, I need to build a few more things to check though). Myu big question now is how to get the thing on. I.E. the parts on that cant just slip on?

Could this file be used as, at least a base for, War Machine? I'd like to make a War Machine although starting now without seeing the 'IronMan 2' movie design my not be good, but the hell with it. What do you all think?

Go for it...
War Machine's armor, just like Iron Man's, changes constantly - most new artists who come on for a run of issues will change the armor to suit their needs, and their armors might change between crossed comic lines that are happening simultaneously.

Sometime's War Machine's armor is nearly identical to Iron Man's, just with the added firepower (minigun, missile launchers, wrist cannons).

So Iron Man's should be close enough, as long as the colors are right.

Ruze789 - much appreciated. I found this guy at Deviant Art who is working on one and it's pretty killer considering it's made out of foam board, styro-foam, and crayola magic clay. SICK! :)

I'll start out with printing the helmet. However since my head is HUGE it's good to know what size person this was made for? Then I think I can scale the helmet to what I need. I'll get to the armor after I do some War Machine sketches.

Once again thanks for the input and the work you, callmemild and belakor for all your hard work. Could get beyond a dream if it wasn't for you guys/gals out there.

Also check this guy out here. More sick stuff. Made it with poster board, hot glue and paint.

I have a pretty massive dome piece and the default scaling for bela's helmet is a tad too large. Unless you're some sort of freak of nature, the scaling it comes at should work just fine.

Well define 'massive dome'. My head is 24" around and I where a 7 1/2 fitted hat size. If that is enough then the helmet will do. Regardless I will print it out as is and start making it. I will more than likely add an side piece to it with a red laser and or something to make it more War Machine. We shall see.

###UPDATE###

I printed the 3 pieces to the helmet out and start going to town on this thing. Few things I noticed about these so forgive the n00b-ness of my observations. These are just observations for a constructive discussion not for the purpose of B*TCHING.

1) Problems with the 'Face' portion. Nothing I can't fix, but there are basically 3 pieces to this and this hard to know where and how they join together.
2) the 'Crown' needs some struts inside of it for support while resining and fiberglassing. One could add there own, but it's something to think about for further updates to these files
3) I noticed the ear pieces on either side have different size circles. Is this on purpose? Also I thing will need struts and and some way to join it to the 'Crown'.

That is all I have for now. I'm not planning on making this 'War Machine' for an up coming con or event just doing it for fun (like everything else here). Lots to learn and to do.

**BUMP**

I wanted to avoid the DOUBLE POST but after updating no one replied so I thought I would give this thread a bump. Anyway, read my update and I will try to upload some progress pics.

Well its been a while since I have had internet, but I'm back on and still armoring. Thought I would show you guys what I have been up to. Got the files in this post and went to work. for those of you who have snt me pms over the last 6ish months I am sorry i have not replied due to lack of internet but I will be replying to them soon. I have also set up a dinky forum for Ironman armor to help out some of my friends SectionSixteen. As i don't want to clutter up 405th with to much on ironman (although i probably will).

Glad to see you back on board with us. I don't think 405th will mind to much about Iron Man Pepakura, but I will pop on over to the other site and check it out. Great progress you have made there. Looks good.

Still want to make my own ODST armor, but that Iron Man really has my attention right now. Just me being silly I guess. :p

Here are some pictures of how mine is coming along. I still have to finish the right arm and everything from the crotch down, but it is slowly coming along despite some draw backs I'll explain below the pictures.

Gut

So visulally speaking the stuff looks great. However, there are some issusues that anybody else trying this will have to deal with

1. The armor is mostly made in the form of panels where parts literly float in space. The best example of this is the back where I have no idea what is suppose to attach to what and how. Limbs dont have this problem, but the back and gut are going to be a challenge

2. The scale is a little odd. I found the helmet fits me like a glove but the arm sections were so big I couldnt bend my arm to 90 degrees. They way I plan to resolve this is by trimming and rolling parts until I get a good fit. Once the armor is glassed I will try to put hidges on the arms and legs.

3. I have to experiment with the cardstock and epoxy to see how stiff the stuff gets after it gets resined (no fiberglas reinforcement) As the armor is right now I can't get a good fit and thus cant really tell if the chest sections fit or not. As soon as I try to get glass going I will post my findings.

On the bright side, if you spend the time and effort to work on this and make it wearable, it will be impresive on halloween because I dont think many people will have the patience to try it.

Hm... I really cant decide, lotechstark's chest or this one? From the looks of it, I like lotechstark's crotch piece better, and the lower arm and upper leg... but im so torn between them! Should I just scrap the pieces that I think are better from these files or try and modify my current ones?

I'm going crazy!

Nice armor! Do you know anything about it? Like how it was made?

Parts of it are off, like the shoulders being too square but it's a damn good job all the same. Thanks for the pics. ;)

Hey NZ, that MkII helmet looks sweet!

Ok i got it all cut out several pieces glued and i noticed it cannot go together. It is missing alot of tabs and most of the numbers aren't there. How did you guys deal with this?

Looks like I need to post some photos. Okay the Mask or face part can be glued to the 'crown'. They connect at the cheek bone area and at the top of the head where the crown narrows toward the face. Really the face was meant to detach from the crown which is why there are not to many points where they connect.

The neck part I haven't gotten back to that one yet since it needs some special steps I can not explain or figure out just yet. I will have to compare the cut out pieces to the pepakura file on my computer to see how they work.

I'm sure the file will get re-looked at when everyone has more time. I'm in no rush since I myself have to many projects on my plate. Do what you can and I or someone else will help you as best we can.
