BAD NEWS

my helmet was too small...yet again

so im going to start the hd boot file by robo genesis, so if I wear a size 11 shoe how do i scale the file? i dont want another mis-sized piece

For me personally, scaling the boots was pretty easy. I simply measured the overall length in mm of the boots I planned to wear, and put that into the corresponding dimenison in the pep file. That's all you really need to do.

should i put a cardboard support beam going across the back spread it out? it seems like it gets narrow and starts moving into itself....oh well maybe it will be better when i ad more

Your first two tries looked good, but too small. Lets hope the CQB is the difference. Good luck, can't wait to see more progress.

Wet sanding primer is a no no in regular cases. I use to do body work on cars and we would never wet sand the primer, primer acts like a sponge and absorbs water thus trapping water next to the steel. HOWEVER in our application it's ok to wet sand primer as we have a layer of resin between the paper and the water. Still unless you are going to mold a part wet sanding primer is a waist of time, if you have it smooth just using regular sand paper the paint will come out just fine. Wet sanding is used after the layers of paint are applied to remove orange peel (orange peel is when you look at the part in the light and the surface will have tiny bumps like the peel of an orange), and make the surface mirror smooth. You then apply your layers of clear coat and buff that to a smooth mirror shin.

Great work as well.

Edit I also forgot to add you can NOT use that sander for wet sanding it will short out. Besides wet sanding should be done by hand as it is a delicate process, sand to much in one area and you'll remove the paint to the primer and have to start over. Also a Bondo tip: keep your layers thing and you won't have to do as much sanding, you can add more bondo as you go along. Makes for less wear and tear on the sander.

This is one of the best Definitions/examples of wet sanding I've seen yet. I will add to this by saying: Wet sanding is used to remove the smallest amount of paint possible, and should only be used on base coat or if you're doing more then 2 coats of clear coat. You can use 400-2000 grade Waterproof sand paper (black mostly) and/or extra fine - extra extra fine steel wool. (Its hard to find sand paper over 1200) I have also heard of people using Pumas stone for small detailed areas.

Now that you have the term down, this doesn't mean that you can not use it in the bondo stage to get an edge as smooth/thin as possible before paint and/or to remove run marks in paint. Its just that using reg. sanding for the primer coat allows that primer to bond surface to paint better. If the primer is to smooth it will not do this. ( there is a difference between primer coat, sealer coat, base coat, secondary color coat, and finish coat.) I hope this helps get rid of some of the confusion.

I probably wont even wet sand it, i was just wondering what it was

I'm glad you had a good weekend costumer99, but you might want to watch your language on the forums my friend. Aside from that, your pep work looks great! Nice CQB.

No worries man.
Yeah mine did that too. It will because you have two curved points you are trying to balance it on. Don't sweat it, you're good. Keep on going.
