My first attempt at Halo armour.......

Well, since my company decided to lay me off after three and a half years, I've finally had time to start on some new projects ( trust me, I have to have something to do between job searches or I'll go nuts!)

I decided to build a prototype of a MK VI helm using Robogenisis' file and began to work. I don't think I did too badly concidering it was my first attempt at paper armour ( I usually make armour from steel, but living in an apartment has put a severe damper on that!), but unfortunately I have several severe warpages in it, but it was meant to be a prototype, after all.

I'll probably start on my next helm in a few days when my order of Smooth-Cast 321 makes it in from Dallas. Until then...Have fun!

not bad for a first attempt dude! now that you got the hang of it, just take your time and make your next helmet as accurate as possible. What I do is I have pepakura VIEWER open while I'm pepping and I make the folds as close to the models as possible to keep the shape and keep the paper model kind of sturdy. good luck with your build i'm sure it will be great!

Lord Talon, you should use photobucket or image shack to host your pictures and use the IMG tags to put them in your post. That way we wouldn't have to click on links to see them =]

And, great progress, im working on a mark VI as well

My problem is that my computer is in the living room but my workspace is in the kitchen ( as well as the fact I have 3 teenage boys that leap onto the computer as soon as I leave it for a second ) but I've done that a few times to see where certain parts fit. Another problem is that I didn't start scoring the mountain and valley lines with pens until halfway done with the build, so some of the folds aren't as crisp as they should be...which probably doesn't help when it comes to a clean build. That makes a biiiiiiiiiig difference! Oh well..... Now that I have Pep designer, I can scale it properly as well.

OK...my son Connor downloaded a Scout Helm ( must be a HD file, you should see how thin the paper pieces are!) and thought he measured his head correctly ( using videos from Youtube)...the helm is now 90% finshed, but it looks like it's scaled for a 6 year old! He's done a good job on it, and as soon as he finishes I'll post some pics. I'll probably start my next build Saturday...I started a new job Monday ( yea!!) so my building free time is greatly reduced. More later!

I got on Halo costuming wiki and found a Scout Helm pattern for Connor, which turned out pretty dang good! It's NZ-TK's pattern and worked out great...he finished it in about two days. I'm probably going to coat it in Smooth-Cast 321 later on in the weekend.

OK, It's been a while since I was able to post an update ( I found a job that pays really well, but the hours are weird!) but here is the lastest on a few projects:

After finished the pep on his Scout helm,my son Connor used some foamboard and reinforced it internally as well as adding it to the exterior, giving a nice look. Pics below.



He decided he wanted a few pics with his tuba as a Spartan Laser Afterward, I coated it in two layers of SmoothCast 321 and then primered and painted it. He didn't want me to use bondo on it so I masked it off like he wanted and gave it it's two-tone look. Being the big-hearted goof he is, he gave it to a good friend of his.






This is my newest helm, which unfortunately was scaled wrong for me, but is perfect for my youngest son. It's a hi-def file by DF4L, and I really like how this one is turning out.
