My Halo 4 Spartan IV Foam (Pic Heavy)

its all coming together well now and your moving right a long with it!

I want to offer a little constructive crit if I may.
Basically my only gripe is the gaps on the seams, to help you out just make sure as you cut each joining edge the cut is clean and smooth so it joins up perfectly. You don't need a lot of glue just a small bead that you can spread like butter over the edge of the piece making sure the glue is nice and hot (just be careful not to burn yourself!!).
You may find it useful when cutting out the pieces to join up some of the templates and trace them so you create one big piece you can just heat and bend into shape meaning theres less edges to worry about.

Anyway your doing well and I look forward to seeing more!

hey Mac thanks
im sure there are some foam ready mark VI helmets out there if you can't find one let me know and i might do one for you.

:D

That would be super awesome =D
It's not the problem that I don't find any but not for foam and when I try to register to 4shared it doesn't let me (tried it already with 2 different e-mail adresses) and some other sites I checked require other things like "click on these 5 things first to start your download" no thanks.

PM me the URL's some time and then i'll email them to you, just lemme know your email

UPDATE: well I'm back from my break and have already gotten straight back into my Spartan IV.
anyway i have continued the warrior torso and i have done another third of it. i have taken on-board some of your criticism and i have benefited from it. i have been more careful with the seams; cutting better angled joins, and using a bit of hot glue to cover little gaps. but still not perfect. as far as the recon helmet goes i will not be finalizing it until i am sure on what i am going to do. so if you have any advice or help can you please PM me that help and or advice, thanks.

here are some pics;

after i finish the rest of the torso i will be making the shoulders. they will be scratch builds so i won't be able to provide pep files, but might be able to provide templates.

PS: my halo 4 aviator helmet foam ready pep file: Aviator helm foam ready

WOW! nice foam work so far! Now that I've seen this thread, its kinda obvious what you want the files for xD Just send me a PM telling me of which armor.

UPDATE: i finally got the warrior torso done. i still have to do a few details to properly finish it, but i am ready to move on to the next part of my build.
so anyway here are the pics of the torso:

hot damn thats lookin good! just out of curiosity, is your hot glue gun kind of crapping up? it seems like the glue is having some heat distribution problems or something.

this is my glue gun. its a cheap one and the trigger is broken, but it works just fine. the parts where there are smudged and messy bits of glue, i flatten out bits of glue and forget how hot it is and burn myself and rip my hand away.
watch out for hot glue guns, they burn!!!! >:|

UPDATE: okay, I haven't updated in a while because I've been busy unfolding pep files (and still plenty more to unfold) plus I've just been too lazy to scratch build the shoulders, lol

anyway, today I started and finished the aviator shoulder (pep file in the second post) it was a fairly annoying piece to put together, because its actually a pretty confusing piece of armor, but maybe that's just me :confused
here are the pics:

ignore my scrawny arms, that'll be fixed by a deceiving undersuit :p

so it's not painted yet, and still needs a bit of work, but i have kinda started making a sort of undersuit as well. the shoulders are pieces that need to actually be attatched to the undersuit to sit properly.

another problem that i will have to face pretty soon is painting. in the past (foam armor making (terrible foam armor making)) painting has been my downfall, this time i hope to get it right! what i think i'll have to do is:
1. tape off coloured parts, and spray paint plain black.
2. tape off black parts, and hand paint the coloured parts, with the stretchiest paint i can get my hands on.
3. hand paint on some battle damage and scratches, with the stretchy paint
4. lastly, hand paint a layer or 2 of clear stretchy paint, to seal the armor.

well if you have any advice to help me out with painting it, or if i'm doing it all wrong, lemme know

thanks guys,
CrazyDav0 :D

UPDATE: i got my window tint film in the mail today, and i started testing for my visor.
here are some pics, then explanations:

tested piece:

without visor:

okay it may look like i can't see through it properly but the camera for my iPod stuffed up, i can see through it fine, with visor:
IMG_0823_zps2433964c.jpg

it's like looking through sunnies, but slightly red-ish.

feedback is appreciated.
thanks,
CrazyDav0 :D

lol, looks a bit like that

also mini update: i have applied the tint film to 2 different visors. one i shall leave to cure over night, the other will cure for 2 days (just incase over night isn't enough)

i might update tomorrow saying how the over night cure works out, if my internet connects properly that is.

anyway, catch-ya's later,
CrazyDav0

UPDATE: i left a visor to cure over night, and the other visor is still curing. this is what it looks like in the helmet:

i think that the visor for this build is gonna be the most in game accurate part of the entire build, lol. anyway, i am not gonna glue the visor in until i've painted the helmet, and i am gonna start the other shoulder later today/tomorrow. once i've done the other shoulder, i'm gonna start painting, and maybe a little on a undersuit.

thanks,
CrazyDav0 :D

The birth of a Spartan... All hot glue gun burns included.
Beautiful work on that visor man! Really love how it turned out! Cant wait to see this build painted!

That looks awesome man! But can you give a little more explanation on the visor? How you made it/tinted it?

okay, i have been without internet for a few days, but it's all good now.

That looks awesome man! But can you give a little more explanation on the visor? How you made it/tinted it?

thanks, and okay here goes:

1. well, first off i got the plastic i was going to use for my visor, (this method can be applied to whatever you are making the visor out of)
2. clean the visor
3. peel off clear plastic from the window tint you are applying.
4. wet the visor and the sticky side of the tint film.
5. carefully apply the window tint film being careful not to leave any air bubbles.
6. let it cure for 12 or so hours.

that's basiclly it, but if you're unsure from that, just google it, that's how i knew

btw, my glue bun broke and i won't be able to get a new one till next week, i'll have new armor done after then

thanks,
CrazyDav0

wow, I cant believe its that easy! Im making an emile helmet for a friend, so do you think it would work if i tinted a sheet of PEGT then vacuum formed it? I found window tint film on ebay for $5, so this will be a super cheap way of making visors. How good is the visablility though, especially at night (haloween)?
